Breaking Fire

Chapter 1

“ No“ sabi ng isang malagom at nakakahalinang boses.

Muntik na syang mapaangat sa hinihigaan kung hindi lang nya na pigilan ang sarili. Nakarinig sya ng lagabog, sa pagsira ng hood siguro; she guessed. Pagkatapos ay pumasok na ang lalaki at pinaandar ang sasakyan. Ng mapalingon ito para magbacking ay nakita sya nito. She put her finger in her lips motioning to keep silent and make a praying gesture to beg with a puppy dog pout. Narinig nya ang mga boses at silently told the guy “please”.

Tumango lang ito. Pinagpatuloy na nito ang pagpapaatras ng sasakyan. She sighed her relief. Nang tantya nya ay nasa highway na sila ay umangat sya at nahahapong umupo sa backseat.

“Thank you.” Sabi nya ng balingan nya ito pagkatapos makaupo ng maayos.

Tinignan sya nito sa rearview mirror. There she saw the lightest colored eyes she had ever seen. As their gazes locked natagpuan nya ang sarili na natulala na lang.

“Who are you? And why are those guys after you?” He asked in that very mesmerizing voice. Natauhan sya sa sinabi nito.

“They want to take me with them.” Maikling tugon nya.

“Why?” malisyosong pinasadahan sya nito ng tingin sa rearview mirror.

Nainis sya.

“And may I know why you’re looking at me like that?”

“Nothing” sabi nito na nagbawi ng tingin.

She looked down to herself and saw two of the front buttons of her red three-fourths blouse was gone. Revealing enough cleavage to tempt a saint. She tried to look for pins sa dala-dala nyang bag. Thank God she had one. She started struggling with the lapel of her shirt.

Nang mag-angat sya ng tingin ay nakasalubong nanaman nya ang mga mata ng lalaki. Pasimple itong nag iwas ng tingin. Tumikhim sya.

“ Could you please drop me off to the nearest subway? If its okay with you.” She gave him her friendliest smile.

“Okay”

Tumigil ito sabay sabing, “here!”

Napamura sya she heard the footsteps and felt ang paghigit sa kanya. She gives the man a deadly look. Then walang sabi- sabing sinipa ang pagitan ng mga hita ng may hawak sa kanya. Nilingon nya ang lalaki and gave him a dirty finger.

Pinagtinginan sya ng mga tao particular sa may paanan nya. Doon nya naalala ang hinubad na sapatos. Napamura sya ng mahina. Buti na lang at dala nya ang riding boots nya. Di man bagay sa outfit nya ay buti na yun kesa walang sapin sa paa.

I’m Laufirent Victoria, you can call me Laufy, Lauf or Fire. Twenty-two, height five-feet six inches, with a medium built. Grey-green eyes, sun-kissed skin, small pouty lips, cute perty nose and soft red-brown curls framed her heart- shaped face. She was simply lovely. Magbuhat ba daw ng sariling bangko.

She has a sister named Laurice, aka Ice her twin. Pero kung gaano man ka dark ang dark na buhok nya ay sya namang kabaliktaran ng kay Ice. Ice has golden-brown straight hair and grey-blue eyes; physically ay wala nang pinagkaiba sa kanila.

Yung humahabol sa kanya kakanina ay mga tauhan ng organization na matagal ng gusting kunin sya to be a scientist and inventor. Hindi naman masama ang pay- may bonus pa sya sa bawat invention nya. But she doesn’t want risking other people’s lives. She made a thorough investigation on the organization and the result is not as good as it appears to be. Inside that very successful and respected company is a dark persona- the one who killed her parents and kidnapped her sister.

That fateful night when she was six, she was with her parents in the car heading towards the place where the deal will be done.

“Mom where will we go? Is it true I will be given as an exchange?” she asked.

“No Fire.” The man who talked is the one that lead the operation. “Do you run fast?” I could recall him asking.

“I think so…”

“okey that’s enough for now. When you walk towards the bad guys and you get to face to face with your twin, run. Deal?” he said smiling.

“Okay”

…And so it happened my mother and I were the ones who walked towards the goons. But I didn’t see any trace of my sister. Midway I stopped.

“Where’s my sister?!” I asked angrily.

The goons laughed.

“So ikaw pala ang dapat na nakuha namin. What a pity, aliw na aliw siguro si boss kung ikaw ang nakuha namin.” One goon said.

“Where is Ice? We made a deal!” Her mother said.

“Never make a deal with Lucifer. He might not be righteous enough.”

She held her mothers skirt and said in a small voice.

“Ice is not in their hands I can feel it mom.”

I saw the man’s face curled.

“Matalino!” He growled.

“Where is she?”

Then a loud crash followed by blackness, gunfire and voices enveloped me…

After that night my parents were killed, it was all over the news. I moved in my grand parents house. Still hoping my twin will be all right. As I grew up, bodyguards surrounded me, till I beat grandpa in a chess game to get rid of my tails. Occasionally I was still pursued by those bad guys.

Tinatanong siguro ninyo kung bakit they are determined to get me. When I was a young child I presented a science project- a freeze ray, which got everyone’s attention- I was six when a group wanted to take me in so I could nourish my skills. But then I refused I want to be normal just like the other kids. They even bribe me with anything. Until the incident happened…

Now she just hid all her inventions, she doesn’t want that company to use it to exterminate mankind. Lalo na ngayon na she discovered an airborne virus that could kill faster than the airbag inflates itself. Di pa nya nakikita ang sister nya, but she know she is still alive somewhere. You know twins connection.

Thus her life now, magulo.
