Lets pretend we know these new people.
Lets pretend we're okay,
Lets pretend we've known them for years.
Lets pretend our wrists aren't scarred.
Our hips, either.
Lets pretend the demons in the back of our minds aren't there.
Let's pretend we eat everyday,
Lets pretend we don't lie to our friends
Lets pretend we're actually fine.
Let's pretend we can't look someone in the eyes, and tell them a lie.
Lets pretend we didnt grow up to fast,
Lets pretend we didnt have to
Lets pretend we didnt have to support our families
Or deal with them being shot on their way to the movies, to school, to run a marathon.
Lets pretend we don't cut ourselves to feel,
Lets pretend we don't hate ourselves,
Lets pretend we don't write depressing poetry.
Lets pretend we don't wear long sleeves,
Lets pretend we don't want to die.
Lets pretend we're five years old again
And we don't know what's going on.
Lets pretend we have no clue of the world.
Lets pretend it's just mommy and daddy and brother
Lets pretend we still try to catch fireflies
Lets pretend we don't make our parents cry
Lets pretend we still have our favorite superheroes printed on the back of our lunchboxes.
Lets pretend we aren't gay yet
Lets pretend we don't get abused
Lets pretend we don't get bullied
Lets pretend we don't throw up our lunch
Lets pretend we don't need antidepressants
Lets pretend we still fly kites
Lets pretend we still make s'mores
Lets pretend we still eat cookies
Lets pretend we still have blankies.
Lets pretend we still have stuffies
Lets pretend we still want homework
Lets pretend we still don't get tests
Lets pretend we still don't get periods
Lets pretend we still don't get facial hair
Lets pretend we still don't need help
Lets pretend we still dont push people away.
Lets pretend we're young again.
