Tom Blake lay one evening resting in the orchards, surrounded by apple trees. Barrels of apples and piles of leaves encircled his resting place. As he slumbered he heard occasional rustling. He stood to his feet and poked a pile of leaves with a tree branch. He looked around and reached into a barrel and retrieved a shiny red apple. He took a bite. CRUNCH! He heard moaning in the near distance.

“Uh . . . uh . . . ,” said the voice.

One voice became two, then several, then many. Tom witnessed long limbs stretching toward him from out of the darkness.

“Help me. Somebody, please help!” said Tom as he became surrounded by walking, lumbering, rotting corpses.

“One . . . two . . . three,” said Dr. Leo as he snapped his fingers.

“Where am I?”

“You’re safe and sound in my office,” said Dr. Leo. “You were in a deep hypnotic trance, which, I might add, was very intense. I’m going to increase your dosage from five milligrams to ten. This should help control your episodes of delusion.”

Tom noticed teeth marks on his forearm as Dr. Leo wrote his prescription. Embarrassed, Tom refrained from sharing his startling discovery.

Leo took notice of Tom’s frail stature and remarked. “Have you been eating enough lately?” He reached into his refrigerator and tossed Tom a shiny red apple. Tom studied it, dropped it to the

Floor, and bolted out of Dr. Leo’s office in utter terror.

Dr. Leo retrieved the apple and scratched his head. He heard a disturbing knock at the door.

“I’m sorry the consultation hours are currently over,” said Dr. Leo as he threw open the door.

He was violently attacked by a horde of bloodthirsty zombies. When they had finished feasting, Dr. Leo’s body lay in utter ruin.
