{It is understood that one does not need a passport to travel within the United states!! Use your imagination.}
Madison P.O.V-
"What do you mean?" I asked slowly, growing more nervous than the second before.
"You see, we just found out that Mackenzie's passport and my passport are expired and we had to renew them. And there's no way we're going to be able to do it in time. And this morning, Victoria's dog considered her passport as breakfast." Sydney explained. This couldn't be happening
"Please be joking."
"I'm sorry"
"Oh my god, Sydney. What.. What do I do?" I asked frantically.
"I think you should just go by yourself."
"Sydney, are you crazy? Wait let me answer for you, yes. I can't go on a plane 10 hours by myself across the country. I just can't!"
"I know that, but there's nothing we can do. I'm sorry!"
"I'm just not gonna go." I said stubbornly.
"No, Madison, you're going to Hawaii and you're going to enjoy it because you've been looking forward for this the entire year. You can't bail out now! I know the plan was for all four of us to go, but we can't. Maybe if we all make a request for a passport and go through the whole process quickly, we can join you later on in the month."
"I can't beleive this" I placed my hand against my forehead, walking in circles outside the airport.
"I'm so sorry."
"It's fine. Look, I know you guys didn't mean it anyways, but I guess I'll talk to you later." I said.
"Please don't not go because of us. We'll figure something out." Sydney finished and I hung up. I slowly brought the phone down from my ear and turned it off. Wow.
"What happened?" My mom approached me, concerned.
I stayed quiet as tears formed in my eyes. My summer vacation was ruined. I know I really wanted to go to Hawaii, but I wanted to go with my friends.
I explained the whole story to my mom and she understood what happened. She even said the same thing as Sydney. If only I wasn't so dependent, I would've gone. I know I just graduated, I know I'm 18, I know I'm not a kid, but I just don't feel comfortable going by myself.
"Sweetheart it's going to be fine. You can make new friends over there! But if you don't want to that's completely fine." My mom said trying to persuade me.
"I don't know." I sighed placing my head on my mom's shoulder.
"Well you don't have a lot of time to think about this. Either you're going or you're going. You can't quit on this now! Everything's packed and you already have your reservations at the resort." She said. Why did all of this have to happen?
I thought over the situation at least twenty times in my head before slowly nodding my head and agreeing.
"I guess so." I half smiled, trying to go along with what my mom said. I was not even sure of what I just said right now.
"That's my girl." We walked in to begin with checkout. Max walked slowly behind and made up an excuse to go to the bathroom.
We checked in my luggage and I received the gate number.
"This is it." I sighed looking up at the entrance to the corresponding gate as we finished walking.
"Honey I'm going to miss you so much. Please take care of yourself and promise me you'll behave." She smiled as I hugged her back. Max came up behind her and I went up to him.
"I won't miss you" I joked, making him chuckle.
"Bye," he said and hugged me.
"Oh, and no drugs, or driving, or alcohol, or boyfriends! Okay?" My mom said strictly pointing a finger at me.
"Okay! I wasn't even thinking of that! And I'm 18, I can have a boyfriend." I said but my voice grew softer at the last part.
"Bye!" I waved at my mom and brother and then gave my ticket and passport to one of the security workers. They checked it and gave it back to me.
Without my friends.
