The top floor of Kim Logistics headquarters overlooks the sprawling Seoul skyline. Rain streaks across the floor-to-ceiling glass, but inside the main conference room, the air is cold and perfectly still.
Jennie Kim sits at the head of the polished dark wood table. At twenty-five, she moves with a quiet authority that usually makes older executives sweat. She wears a tailored charcoal blazer, her dark hair pulled back in a precise style. Her eyes, sharp and unreadable, track the seconds on her watch.
The door swings open right on time.
Lisa Manoban walks in, completely shifting the room's energy. At twenty-four, the newly appointed CEO of Manoban Corp doesn't carry herself like a typical executive. She wears an oversized designer suit jacket over a crisp shirt, her blonde hair catching the overhead lights. She carries a leather portfolio under one arm and a warm, disarming smile on her face. Behind her, two junior architects scramble to set up digital presentation displays.
"Good morning, CEO Kim," Lisa says, her voice smooth and entirely unbothered by the heavy atmosphere. She extends a hand across the table. "It's a pleasure to finally meet the woman running the biggest shipping empire in the country."
Jennie looks at the offered hand for a fraction of a second before accepting it with a firm, brief grip. "Ms. Manoban. Let's skip the pleasantries and stick to the agenda. We have forty-five minutes before my next briefing."
Lisa chuckles softly, pulling out a chair opposite Jennie and leaning back with total confidence. "Straight to business. I like that."
With a swipe of her tablet, Lisa casts her architectural blueprints onto the room's main display. "What you're looking at isn't just a basic distribution hub. Manoban Corp wants to build Kim Logistics a landmark. Curved glass walls, open-air green spaces on the upper decks, and a central tower that mimics the flow of ocean currents."
Jennie stares at the glowing render. Her expression doesn't soften even a millimeter.
"It's impractical," Jennie says, her voice flat. "Curved glass increases structural costs by thirty percent. Open-air decks compromise climate control for sensitive cargo. We run a logistics firm, Ms. Manoban, not an art gallery."
Lisa tilts her head, resting her chin in her hand. Her golden-brown eyes lock onto Jennie's with amused challenge. "Building something functional is easy, CEO Kim. Anyone can give you a concrete box. But a company with your revenue shouldn't settle for boring. You want a footprint in Seoul that screams power. My design gives you that."
"My company's power is measured in tonnage and efficiency, not vanity projects," Jennie counters, resting her elbows on the table and lacing her fingers together. "Your design prioritizes aesthetics over operational flow. The loading bay access is far too tight for heavy transport trucks."
"We modified the turning radiuses on page four," Lisa replies instantly, leaning forward across the table. The distance between them shrinks, but neither backs down. "If you actually look past the pretty glass, you'll see the workflow is twice as fast as your current facility."
Jennie's eyes narrow. She finds Lisa's forward demeanor bordering on arrogant. "I have looked at the numbers. And my decision stands. Redesign the structure around utility, or Kim Logistics will find another firm."
Lisa's smile slowly fades into a cool, confident smirk. She closes her portfolio with a definitive snap. "We don't build concrete boxes, Jennie."
The use of her first name makes Jennie's jaw tighten.
"Then we have nothing more to discuss today," Jennie says smoothly, standing up. "My assistant will email you our operational requirements. Meeting adjourned."
Lisa stands up, offering a playful, respectful head tilt. "Until next time, CEO Kim."
Jennie watches Lisa walk out of the room. It isn't love at first sight. It is war.
