The lights of the enormous theatre suddenly flickered.
One moment, the heroes of Earth-616 were scattered across New York, Avengers Tower, the Baxter Building, Xavier's mansion, and S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.
The next-
WHOOSH!
Everyone appeared inside a gigantic golden theatre.
Thor immediately grabbed Mjolnir.
Thor: "WHO DARES BRING THE AVENGERS HERE?!"
Hulk looked around suspiciously.
Hulk: "Hulk no like theatre."
Captain America stood beside the Avengers, while Iron Man scanned the room.
Tony: "Okay. Either somebody has an extremely strange sense of hospitality, or we're in trouble."
Maria Hill immediately reached for her weapon.
Maria Hill: "S.H.I.E.L.D., stay alert!"
Across the theatre, the X-Men appeared.
Cyclops raised his visor slightly.
Wolverine's claws came out.
Jean Grey looked around cautiously.
Meanwhile, the Fantastic Four appeared together.
Reed: "Interesting. This appears to be some form of extradimensional transportation."
Johnny: "Translation?"
Ben: "We're stuck in a creepy theatre."
Then a tremendous golden light filled the room.
Everyone looked toward the stage.
A familiar cosmic presence appeared.
The One-Above-All.
The entire theatre went silent.
Even Thor lowered Mjolnir.
Thor: "The One Above All..."
The One-Above-All calmly looked across the entire audience.
The One-Above-All: "Welcome, heroes of Earth-616."
Tony folded his arms.
Tony: "So why exactly are we here?"
The One-Above-All pointed toward the enormous screen.
The One-Above-All: "You have been brought here to witness the life of someone you believe you already understand."
The heroes exchanged confused looks.
Then the screen displayed a single name.
PETER PARKER
The entire theatre erupted.
Tony: "Oh, you've got to be kidding me."
Wolverine: "Not that kid."
Johnny: "Seriously?"
Ben: "Parker?"
Several heroes groaned.
Across the theatre, Peter's former romantic partners reacted even more strongly.
Mary Jane Watson crossed her arms.
Felicia Hardy narrowed her eyes.
Other women who had dated Peter exchanged uncomfortable looks.
Felicia: "Great. Just great."
