October 1955

Sadie ran.

She didn't know where she was going.

She only knew she had to get there before it was too late.

Her shoes struck the pavement as she raced down the dark road, her heart pounding so hard she could barely breathe.

Somewhere ahead of her was a car.

And inside that car was the man she had traveled through time to save.

James Dean.

"James!"

Her voice disappeared into the night.

She kept running.

She could hear an engine somewhere in the distance.

The sound grew louder.

Closer.

Sadie stopped for a second.

Her entire body went cold.

This was it.

The moment she'd spent weeks trying to prevent.

The moment she'd crossed decades to change.

The moment history had been waiting for.

"No..."

She started running again.

"James!"

A pair of headlights appeared around the bend.

Sadie couldn't see who was driving.

She couldn't see what was happening.

But she knew.

She knew because she'd read the story.

She'd seen the photographs.

She'd watched the documentaries.

She knew how October 1955 was supposed to end.

Except...

History had never accounted for Sadie.

She ran toward the headlights.

And then everything went white.

⸻

Three Weeks Earlier...

Sadie had been sitting alone in her bedroom when she found the photograph.

It was old.

Older than anything she owned.

A photograph of a young James Dean.

She turned it over.

Three words were written on the back.

SAVE HIM THIS TIME.

Sadie's blood ran cold.

"What?"

She turned the photograph over again.

James was smiling.

But something about the picture felt wrong.

Then she noticed the date written beneath the message.

September 1955.

The lights in her bedroom flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then went out.

Sadie stood.

"Hello?"

No answer.

The photograph suddenly became warm in her hand.

Then hot.

She dropped it.

A strange wind swept through the room.

Her curtains flew upward.

Books crashed from the shelves.

The walls seemed to bend.

Sadie grabbed the edge of her desk.

"What is happening?!"

The photograph began glowing on the floor.

And then she heard it.

A voice.

A man's voice.

Barely audible beneath the roar filling the room.

"Please."

Sadie froze.

The voice whispered one final word.

"Find me."

The room disappeared.

⸻

When Sadie opened her eyes, she was lying in a field beneath a blue September sky.

She had no idea where she was.

She had no idea how she got there.

And she had no idea that somewhere nearby, a young actor named James Dean was living the final weeks of the life history had written for him.

Sadie would soon meet him.

She would become his friend.

She would become the person he trusted most.

And eventually...

She would fall in love with him.

But before any of that happened, Sadie had one impossible task.

She had to stop history from killing James Dean.

Because if she failed...

There would be no second chance.

And if she succeeded...

The entire future would change.

Including hers.
