Long ago, pirates, Sirens, and all Sea-Folk lived in harmony. The pirates kept mostly to the land but had parties that Sirens and Sea-folk were invited to. Sirens used their song only in defense when they felt threatend and learned to survive on fish, meat, and kelp. Before the great feud, each race was allowed to become members of either race without any hate or judgment
Then the Great Feud happened. Legend says a ruthless pirate was sailing in Siran waters and successfully killed her before her song could fully charm him. Once the charm took effect, the pirate proceeded to drown himself.
The hybrid sea-folk were forced to choose which side they wanted to be a part of, and most chose the human side, leaving all their friends and loved ones behind. Since then, Sirens, non-hybrid sea-folk, and Pirates hated each other. This led to a ruling of no cross-species work or transformation, but there were some exceptions.
One of Corralin's childhood best friends, Aquariel, was one of those exceptions. She found a crew of 6 men who still hired Sirens or Non-Hybrid Sea-Folks to be part of the crew. But there were stipulations. The stipulation of her joining said crew was that no other Pirates or even humans, for that matter, knew her true identity, which was that of a siren.
