Red POV

We were pulled over on the side of the road, due to Warren's truck being out of gas, and a stuck tyre on Doc's. As we try to figure out what was wrong, two guys on motorbikes head toward us. We all pull out our weapons, in case a confrontation occurs. As the bikes pass us at a strangely slow pace, while making uncomfortable eye-contact, I notice the new girl, Cassandra, turn the other way, as if she was trying to hide. They speed up as soon as they pass us, and I tap Mack on the shoulder, motioning my finger sideways twice and nod my head towards Cassandra once i have his attention, to signal that i have information about her to relay when we are away from the new people. He nods in acknowledgment.

"Alright let's do this quick" Warren states as Doc jacks up the car. She pulls of the tyre, revealing a trapped Z.

"Well that explains the pull to the left" Doc jokes as I plunge my knife into the z's head, while Murphy freaks out. The group says goodbye to the city while I hop back into the truck, because who the fuck says goodbye to a city, and the rest follow shortly after.

We pull into a mall parking lot, trying to find some gas, but it has been picked clean.

"Would it hurt the antibodies if i kicked him in the nuts?" I hear Addy say as I pass by her, and hear Mack laugh in response. I follow Doc and the new guy as Doc locks on to a red 4x4.

"So what's your name kid?" I hear Doc ask as I look through the backseat, and I poke my head out, curious, since I can't exactly ask myself.

"Ten Thousand" He responds simply. 'Strange name' I think to myself, before remembering that I was nicknamed after the colour of my hair.

"That is not a name, that's a number" Doc laughs.

"It's my name. Made it up myself" He replies.

"Well I suppose you'd have to. While we're on the topic, where'd your name come from, Red?" He asks, looking over at me as I point towards Mack. He gave me the nickname when I first met him, since my sister wasn't around to speak for me, and I ended up just going with it.

"Mack? I kinda figured it was a family nickname or something" Doc thinks aloud, and I shake my head. "Does it mean anything?" He refers back to 10k.

"How many zombies i'm going to kill, already on 1,055. So do you just not talk, like at all?" He asks me.

"Nah, she's a selective mute. She physically can't talk in the presence of someone she doesn't fully trust, but she'll more than likely open up to you eventually" Doc answers for me, in his 'professional voice', and I nod, confirming his statement. He's probably right about me opening up to 10k, as he seems like an alright guy, I'm still not sure about the other two, as there is something really off with Cassandra, and Murphy is well, Murphy.

"Ohh okay, I see. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable by asking" 10k says, and I just wave my hand to say that it's fine. Since I have been like this my whole life, I'm definitely used to people asking questions.

"Wait did you say you've already killed a thousand Z's? Damn! So what happens when you get to 10k?" Doc asks, changing the subject.

"Change my name" He responds, standing up.

"To what? 20k?" Doc questions.

"Jeff" He states, walking away. "I like the name Jeff.  Ah,Shut up" He says as he kills the Z in the car next to us.

We head back as the group had their guns trained on one of the bike guys from earlier, as he explained that his 'friend' took his ride and left him.

"You should choose better friends" Cassandra snaps.

"Good advice..." He trails off. 10k and I look at each other, realizing that these two definitely know each other. He asks for a ride, and says that there is a horde on the move, and points us towards a gas refinery. Garnett agrees to give him a ride to the next outpost, and we all hop back into the trunk.

10k attempts to make small talk with me, asking yes or no questions or things that can be answered with hand motions, and I can tell that he is trying his best to make me comfortable enough to be able to talk to him, which I really appreciate, since most people outside of my group would just give up and ignore me. He's actually pretty good at maintaining a mostly one-sided conversation, which is surprising given how quiet he was before now.

We eventually pull in to the refinery, which was still crawling with Z's. "Frackin zombies" 10k states, earning a laugh from me. He tugs on my sleeve, and motions toward a building, where we would have a better vantage point. We make our way over there, and I pull out my gun, equipped with a silencer. I rarely use it, since I'm running low on ammo, and up close kills are easier for me anyway, but for now I can use it to keep Z's off the groups back, since it's better to have less people wandering around the refinery to worry about.

I see Mack and my sister making their way up the front of the catwalk, and they seem to be doing okay. Doc and Murphy drove to a less populated area in the suburban, while Garnett and Warren try to start up a fuel truck. I can't see where Cassandra and that other guy went which is unnerving.

The noise from the machine stops, and a musical sound fills the air. We then hear a whirring sound, and the machine starts up again. Whatever Mack and Addy did didn't last long, but I don't hear screaming, which is a good sign. The noise stops again, and I see them run over to Warren and Garnett, and they start filling it up.

Suddenly everything starts to rumble, and a bunch of Fuel covered Z's burst out of the bottom of the machine.

"1,058" 10k calls as he kills a Z that was after Doc. I join him in picking off the Z's covering the suburban. There is still two left on the hood as Murphy drives away in a panic, crashing the suburban near the others. Garnett goes to get Murphy out of the car, while the others run, as the car lets out some concerning sparks. Said sparks catch fire, heading toward the fuel truck. It quickly catches and explodes.

"Hey, come check this out" 10k says, leading me further into the building where we come across two fuel canister. He grabs them, and we run back towards the group.

"Kid, you're a god!" Doc exclaims, helping him load them into the truck. As we pull away, 10k speaks up from beside me.

"Excuse me, ma'am, you have a finger in your hair" He refers to Cassandra. She quickly pulls it out and throws it, disgusted.
