Prologue

Max Hatter and the other Wonderland residents are enjoying the weekly Queen of Hearts' tea party. There's light banter, the music is swinging, and everyone is happy. Max excuses himself for a restroom break. As Max walks towards the exit, Chessy appears, circling around him. 

"There you are, Max! I was wondering where you were," Chessy said. 

Max huffs, crossing his arms as Chessy stops in front of him.

"What do you want, Chessy? You're never invited to these tea parties," Max replied.

"Oh, Max...Is that how to treat a friend?"

"You are not my friend, Chessy." 

"Well then... I guess you don't want to hear what happened to your dear father..." Chessy said as she slowly walked away from Max. 

Max's eyes widened in shock. 

"M-My father? What about him? Isn't... Isn't he in the dungeon?" Max inquired.

Chessy shook her head.

"Not anymore. Maddox escaped, and now... He's at Auradon Prep, planning something big," Chessy explained. 

"You don't think he's gone to the Hidden Hall.... Right? What would he even do in there? It's been abandoned ever since Merlin's Academy turned into Auradon Prep..." Max spoke.

"Well, I saw him with a mysterious book, and playing cards too. If I were you, I'd check on him." 

And with that, Chessy disappears. Max paces back and forth, mumbling.

Luis walks over, a concerned look on his face.

"Max? Why are you pacing? Is everything okay?" Luis asked. 

Max stops, trying to compose himself.

"Oh! Um... Hey, Luis. Yeah, just... thinking," Max replied.

"Thinking about what?" Luis tilts his head to the side.

"It's... It's about my father. He's at Auradon Prep," Max said.

Luis's jaw drops.

"What? He... He escaped?! How?! No one can escape the Wonderland Dungeon..." 

"I know, I know. I... I have to go see him."

Luis's eyes widen.

"WHAT?! Max, you can't just go see him! What if he went insane again?!" 

Luis grabs Max by the shoulders.

"Luis... He's still my dad. I can't just... leave him alone. What if he does something horrible?"

Luis sighs, then wraps an arm around Max.

"Max... Are you absolutely sure?" Luis inquired.

Max nods. Then, Luis reluctantly lets go of him.

"Alright, alright. I'll go talk to the others, and we'll go together, okay?" 

"Okay..."

Luis smiles and pats Max's hat before heading back to the table.

Max looks over, blushing slightly.

Luis explains to the others what Max told him. Some look surprised, while others look skeptical.

"Are we sure this isn't a trap? You know what he did to Chloe," Red stated.

"That was weeks ago, Red! And you know Max is not like his dad," Luis replied.

"Oh, so you're defending him now? Why, do you like him?" Red teased.

Luis blushes.

"Well, I- ...That's not important, Red!" Luis said.

Red smirks.

"Suuree, Luis." Hazel teased, making Luis even redder.

"Alright, alright. Let's stop teasing Luis and help Max," Felix said. 

The group heads over to Max, who nods at them. Then, they all follow Max into Auradon Prep.
