Where the chaos began

I can't remember the last time I actually slept well. I spent several months without a job, and now that I finally have one, I barely have any time left to live. I guess having nothing is better than this.

I don't have time for a relationship either. I try not to let my feelings get involved, so l don't end up leaving anyone heartbroken.
But I do have sex with the guy who lives next door just to pass the time. I need a way to unwind after work.

Today, I'll probably get promoted. Our office director is leaving his position and joining the executive board. The director's position can only go to someone he trusts.
Me.

The moment I woke up, I drank coffee, got ready, and ironed my shirt.

"I think I have everything."

I quickly checked every pocket of my clothes, then took one last careful look around the apartment from the doorway.
Once I was sure I was ready, I locked the door and left.

"Good morning, neighbor."

Sam stopped the elevator doors with his hand and looked Han up and down.

"I'll be busy tonight."

"Looks like someone stole you from me."

"I'm getting promoted today."

"Then I guess you'll need me."

"You just want to crawl into my bed."

"We don't do anything except have sex, Han."

"I know."

The elevator doors opened. Sam cornered
Han against the wall and kissed him.

"That's for good luck," he said with a smile.

He left the building, hailed a taxi, and headed toward the office.

The building was unusually loud. I guess everyone was taking the director's departure a little dramatically.

"Han, there'll be a meeting in Room 12 in ten minutes. The director wants everyone there."

"Thanks, Julie."

"Nervous?"

"I feel like I'm on fire."

"I just hope the new director isn't an asshole."

"I can't promise that."

"See that guy?"

Julie quietly pointed toward a guy standing by the bar in the lobby.

"That's the director's son."

"Have you seen him before?"

"Probably a few times. Around the office. He doesn't seem particularly interested in this business."

I tried to get a better look at his face, but he didn't turn around. There were too many people moving around him.

"We should go upstairs. We can see the director before the meeting."

With every passing minute, I became more nervous.

We sat around the table in the office. A moment later, the director walked in, greeted everyone, and smiled.
I stood up and extended my hand just as the office door opened.
My eyes immediately went to the guy whose face I'd been trying to see.

He's gorgeous.

"Excuse me?"

The director's voice snapped me back to reality.
Julie tried to defuse the situation by lightly smacking my arm and laughing.
