The first time I caught him lying, I forgave him

The second time, I admit I made excuses

The third time? I had the guts to actually get away... by then I realized I wasn't the girl he wanted..

But the investment to get him far.

Six months earlier...

Kingston sat attentive in his business meeting. Big words being thrown around about who's making the biggest impact on the company and who sold how many homes.

Working in real estate isn't the best job but it fits his competitive nature to almost a T.

He watched the clock tick knowing he would probably be late picking up his daughter from school. He shares custody of his 6 year old daughter Laila with his god awful child's mother, De'asia.

As the meeting came to an end Kingston's ears perked up hearing the closing statement made by Mr.Valenci. "And finally the company has started looking for a new Vice President of the company as Mr. Johnson is looking to retire early" he spoke.

The energy in the room shifted, like everyone had just become more attentive.

"Mr.Pierce and Mr. Coletti are the prime suspects" Mr Valenci said.

That word suspect stung a little but.. vice president didn't sound too bad to Kingston. In fact it's what he's been working towards all his life. His dream was to own his own real estate company.. for his own personal gain of course

"Alright well that about wraps it up, we'll see you all in the morning" the meeting was adjourned and everyone began gathering their things to leave.

Kingston, though already 10 minutes late to pick up his daughter, decided to hang back just to see if there was anyway he could... sweeten the deal.

"Me Valenci" he called walking up to his boss. His bright, shiny teeth and sharp suite was a perfect fit for his personality.

Mr Valenci turned to him, "Mr pierce what can I do for you!" He asked eagerly.

"Well since you're asking" he started, "I was hoping to get a little more insight on the job at hand... besides the numbers I put up.. I'm wondering why I'm not the ONLY candidate for the job of Vice President"

Mr.Valenci was taken back by the question. What makes Kingston Pierce so sure he's the right guy for the job?

Because he's been with the company since it was a start up? Because he's sold many many homes and gotten the company many new clients?

Mr.Valenci chucked, "You're the best salesman I've ever had. You're smart. You're driven. But people don't trust you."

Kingston laughs. Almost in a mocking tone "Trust me? They buy from me." He replied skirmish. As if it didn't matter if he was trusted only that the homes were Sold.

"Clients buy from you. The board doesn't." Mr Valenci walked from around his desk to speak with a more serious tone. To give Kingston the answer he was looking for.

"You look like a man who's only in love with money. Our next Vice President has to look like someone people would let babysit their kids."
