Bangkok never truly slept.
Even after midnight, streams of headlights flowed beneath the city's skyline, while the last BTS train disappeared into the distance.
Inside their condominium, however, the world was still.
Except for the quiet clicking of a keyboard.
12:48 A.M.
Lena's eyes never left the screen.
Rows of engineering drawings filled her monitor as another revision landed in her inbox.
She sighed.
Saved the file.
Opened another.
Behind her, the bedroom door slid open.
Soft footsteps crossed the living room.
A warm mug settled beside her laptop.
"It'll get cold."
Lena smiled faintly.
"Thanks."
She reached for the mug without looking away from the screen.
The tea remained untouched.
Miu stood there for a moment, watching her wife.
She had become used to this view.
The back of Lena's chair.
The glow of a laptop.
The promise of "just five more minutes."
"Lena."
"Hm?"
"Can you look at me?"
"One second."
Miu nodded.
"Okay."
She waited.
One second became five minutes.
The keyboard never stopped.
Finally, Miu reached over and gently closed the laptop.
The room fell silent.
Lena looked up, startled.
"Miu..."
"I wasn't asking for your attention."
Miu's voice was calm.
"I was asking for you."
Lena leaned back, rubbing her tired eyes.
"I'm sorry."
"I just have to finish this project."
"I know."
"I'm doing this for us."
"I know."
Lena hesitated before quietly adding,
"I just..."
"I want to give you the life you deserve."
Miu frowned.
"What does that mean?"
Lena looked toward the city lights outside.
"You grew up differently."
"My family?"
Lena nodded.
"Your family built something incredible."
"You were raised around business."
"You never had to worry about money."
"You had opportunities most people only dream about."
