3 Weeks in to being the newest member of the avengers and the world has begun to catch wind of you. There was no real announcement to your sudden employment, but the world started to notice the mysterious female that would get captured in paparazzi shots of the avengers around the city.
Social media posts everywhere:
THE NEWEST FEMALE AVENGER
TONY STARKS NEW SIDE PIECE?
YOUNG TRAINEE PERSONAL ASSISTANT
SUPER ENHANCED CRIME FIGHTER OR NEW LOVE INTEREST?

You took no notice of the press due to your lack of time and priorities lying elsewhere. Nick Fury deemed you an asset on account of your versatility on land and underwater. Thus you were sought out and cut a deal to become part of the team. They gave you a new suit, a room in the facility for accomodation, a training regimen and you were left feeling like you just signed away all your human (and non-human) rights over to S.H.I.E.L.D. You haven't experienced a real mission yet, kind of like you were in some sort of probation period. The others would be sent for, they'd go out and do their thing leaving you in the compound as if you weren't "ready" just yet.

1st Week
The others were polite. Introducing themselves to you upon your first arrival meeting run by Stark and Fury. It was all formalities. Avengers assembling around a conference table. They explained your new role to the gang and courteously let you explain who or.... what you were.
"Im (y/n). Uh... I am really grateful for what S.H.I.E.L.D is currently doing for me aannnnd Im just happy to return the favour." You said with a nervous smile and the eyes of about 12 laser beam feeling as though they were scolding through your soul. You look over the table to Tony (who was the first avenger you were acquainted with before arriving) for some sort of nod of approval. Instead he rolled his finger at you to motion for you to keep talking.
"What're you, special forces, assassin, secret services, super soldier, spy?" Steve Rodgers probed. Intrigue scrunched into his facial features.
"Uh right... I um. So...." God spit it out! You screamed internally.
"I am a hybrid human...siren...type....person?" You had 0 confidence about you.
"...She's a fish." Tony blurted out rudely and sarcastically.
"Wait those things are real??" Barton asked adjusting his posture in the chair.
"She's not a thing she's a powerful individual and you all will treat her as such." Fury commanded. They all nodded without prying for more information. They will know more when they need to.
"Welcome to the team." Bruce said with a sweet smile, empathising with how uncomfortable you must be. You could see each member had 1000 questions simply by the way they were looking at you.
"If you have any questions for Miss (y/l/n), be sure to ask them respectfully and at the appropriate times." Fury eyed his 'employees'.
"In the meantime, Stark will show you to your room, explain how Jarvis works and give you a tour of the building. You have your training routine on your bed to keep you sharp and get you used to fighting alongside your peers." You nod at Nick and gaze around at the others with a closed mouth smile.

You couldn't lie to yourself, you were kind of giddy about meeting THE avengers. Each one extremely more attractive in person than you've seen on social media. There were different types of flutters and nerves in all parts of your body. But you tried to rein it in and keep it cool while adjusting to this new reality of yours.

3rd Week
You spent most of your time in the facility's gym, training with agents and other avengers to get on their level. They made you do your homework on all of them. Reading their files and understanding their strengths and weaknesses. Familiarising yourself with every little thing about them. As Fury puts it:
"I want you to know what they're going to have for breakfast."
You figured it's probably a good thing to be so aware of how your team prefers to fight. But with all this training and homework, you hadn't reeaaally had time to actually engage with the others. You had a few 1 on 1 fights with Barton, Steve and Sam but not enough to get to know them socially.

Currently, you had some free time to sit outside the compound in the sun and eat some high protein lunch while holding Steve's information file, skimming key points. You hear multiple footsteps approach you and you quickly cock your head. Clint, Steve and Bucky were coming out to use the space as well while talking obnoxiously loudly about how many tanks they think the Hulk can bench press. The area was peaceful with a nice view, a few deck chairs, a synthetic turf for outdoor workouts and a pool that was clearly chosen by Tony. You were perched on a deck chair in shades and some tight, short but comfy athletic wear.
"Im telling you man... you stack more than three of them things and he would struggle.... Oh, hey rookie!" Clint called to you. The others waving beside him.
"You mind?" He said pointing at the deck chairs close to you.
"Be my guest." You offer happily.
They hang around chatting for a while, while you continue to read quietly. A few conversations required a whisper while being in your proximity and it wasn't long until it was a very low hum. You got the vibe it was either an inappropriate topic or you were the topic. Your eyes scan upwards from the file and Bucky caught your gaze while talking to Steve. Being the old men of the group, you were sure it's harder for them to fathom you being what some would refer to as a 'mermaid'.
"Take a picture fellas, it'll last longer." You said in a laugh to them. You've discovered that getting onto the same level of masculine banter has earnt you more gold stars in their books so you adopted the trait.
"Yeah dont be rude!" Clint slapped Steve's chest and moved closer, opening up their conversation to you.
"I guess it goes without saying... we all have A LOT of questions about you. But Fury's been on us about leaving you alone." Clint explained on behalf of all three of them.
"Ahh... so let me guess.. you've been taking random bets about things about me instead?"
"You're sharp I'll give you that." Clint chuckled.
"Good fighter too, she actually got me on my ass at one point." He spoke to the other two. Steve nodded in agreement.
As the three began engaging with you, you watched them in entertainment and slight relief that it doesn't seem that hard to fit in with them all. You listened intently while rubbing another thin layer of sunscreen down your toned, tanned calves. Clint unintentionally side eyeing your legs in the process.
"So... I'll give you each one question. Chose carefully." You smirked, toying with them.
Their eyes widened and then squinted in deep thought as they all sifted through their brains for the highest priority questions they wanted to ask.
"Ok ok," Steve piped up, clearly deciding on his question.
"Before coming here, did you live in the ocean? No wait.... How did Fury find out about you? Wait no , go back to the first one."
You laughed at him.
"Um alright so.... Up until about a year ago I was definitely living underwater. My bloodline is actually royalty down there. My father and I had many disagreements and I decided I didn't want to be part of the hierarchy and left. Which is considered treason and a massive crime down there. So.... I ended up being hunted by warriors my dad sent to bring me in. I couldn't stay in the water, any sort of familiar vibration or presence can give me away down there. So I went top side. Bounced around in some cheap hotels and houses of new friends. And.... I guess here I am." You quite enjoyed having someone interested in your life. You don't have many close friends to tell your life story to. Yet you babbled most of your story at full speed so as to not leave room for silence and pity.

"Holy shit... that's uh... extreme." Bucky murmured to the floor not making eye contact with you.
"It's what ever." You shrugged it off.
"So.. i guess my question is. Do you have like enhanced strength? Because when we were fighting, you held your own very well." Clint interjected.
"To be honest I dont know. I know Im stronger than humans. I've been told my bone density is quite high. So like Im also really heavy compared to what you see. I guess that also translates when fighting and throwing punches." You relaxed more into the deck chair, facing the sky while still taking to them. Almost forcefully nonchalant. The sun danced across your skin and chest, reflecting a shine from the layer of sun screen. The guys stealing glances over you every now and then. There was a moment of silence, between questions and answers, like cogs were turning.
"How do sirens.... Procreate?" Bucky dropped the bomb short and sharp. Steve choked on his protein shake he was sipping from and Clint dropped his head respectfully while he laughed at the question.
"THAT is what you waste your question on?!" You spoke with emphasis and amusement.
"I am NOT answering that." You shook your head refusing and slightly laughing at his boldness.
"Come on like how does that even work, I've been trying to picture it and I...." Bucky continues.
"You've been...picturing....it?" You stop suddenly, questioning him with intent to embarrass him but not accuse him.
"No not like you... just a siren in general... like.... Anatomically...." He didn't know how to approach the growing hole he was digging himself.
"Mhmm alright Barnes... picture this." You stand up and grab your dirty lunch dishes and Steve's file while flipping all three of them off. Cueing your badass exit. Leaving Bucky red in the cheeks and the other two giggling and smacking him.
