The final whistle didn't end the noise, it only changed it. The roar of sixty thousand voices still hung in the air, echoing inside his skull long after he had left the pitch.
His ears were still ringing with the chants of "Hey Jude" that had become indistinguishable from his own heartbeat.
Every nerve felt awake, his skin buzzing with adrenaline, as if electricity was still running beneath it. The places where shoulders collided, where boots clipped his ankles, where hands grabbed his shirt, they all throbbed with a satisfying ache.
Sweat dried into salt across his face while his muscles twitched with exhaustion, refusing to accept that the battle was over, as if they were still ready for another match after the excruciating 120 minutes they had just played.
In the tunnel, the stadium felt strangely distant, yet the crowd was still with him. Their screams had faded into a dull echo, but it still rattled inside his head.
His lungs burned, legs feeling impossibly heavy, but his mind kept replaying every touch, every sprint, every tackle, every chance. The victory made him weightless.
He still couldn't believe they won. He made his coach, his team, his country proud.
Two goals. Two moments that would be enough to write his name into history and carry his nation into the semi-finals.
The walk through the tunnel was a blur of laughter, shouts, and exhausted smiles.
Every step echoed against the concrete walls as cleats clattered on the floor, the sound drowned out by teammates yelling over one another, replaying tackles, goals, and impossible saves as if the match hadn't ended only minutes before.
Jude followed behind, feet dragging as adrenaline slowly drained away, leaving behind a deep, humming fatigue.
An arm suddenly wrapped around his shoulders pulling him towards the crowded dressing room. Looking up, he met the blue eyes of his captain.
" Beautiful work, Jude" Kane whispered, squeezing the back of his neck.
Jude fought the instinctive flinch at the touch. It wasn't Kane's fault, he simply couldn't stand being touched when every nerve in his body still felt exposed from the match.
But he understood that everyone was happy and didn't want to spoil the mood so he simply endured it and gave Harry a slight smile
"Thanks Harry"
Jude ducked out of his hold and walked into the dressing room, which was already filled with songs and celebration.
Someone drummed a rhythm against a locker with the palm of his hand, another broke into song, and within seconds the entire squad was chanting at the top of their lungs.
Arms were slung over shoulders, jerseys were whipped through the air, and bottles of water became makeshift champagne, spraying across the room until the floor glistened.
The smell of sweat, damp grass, and liniment filled the air, but no one cared. The dressing room pulsed with life, music blasting from a speaker, coaches grinning despite themselves, players dancing on benches with aching legs they had somehow forgotten about.
For those few precious minutes, there were no tactics, no pressure, no tomorrow.
There was only the overwhelming joy of surviving the battle together, of knowing they were still alive in the tournament, one step closer to the dream they had chased since they were children.
Jude watched from the corner, smiling whenever someone caught his eye, laughing when the moment called for it.
The celebration swirled around him like he was standing behind glass. Everyone else seemed to have arrived at the victory already.
