LeAnna pov
"Ugh, do we have to?" Navy huffed as she carried her last box into the house
"Sadly, we have to, but be happy this could be a new start. I know you were struggling in New York."
I said as I wiped the sweat off my forehead. Grandpa's house was more like a cottage; it was a rusti our baby pictures everywhere. I watched Navy pick up our last picture before the fire.
"Was this you? Oh my gosh, you were missing your two front teeth." Navy giggled, looking down at the photo. "Yes, it was me." I rubbed the back of my neck nervously. "Let's just focus on picking out who calls the–" Before I could even finish my sentence, Navy was already running up the stairs to the master. I chuckled and just walked up the stairs into the second room in the house, unpacking.
The next morning I woke up early enough to cook Navy breakfast before her first day starting in the middle of the year would be difficult, but I know she will be able to do it even if it was hard."Good morning. Did you cook pancakes?" Navy sat down on the bar stool in front of me.
"I did. Hurry up; you still have to get dressed. I have to drive you to school in a bit." "Fine." I watched Navy bite into the blueberry pancakes.
I sat down next to her, eyes low. "Hey, I know this seems weird, but I promise you this is a great new start." "Sure, it is. I was happy in York. Why couldn't you let the bank take this stupid house and that dumb bookstore?" Before I could reply, Navy was already gone. She left her half-eaten pancake in her spot instead.
Rubbing my hand down my face as I huffed, grabbing my car key to start the car. "Sorry about my outburst," Navy said as she closed the car door behind her. "You were upset; I know you didn't mean it." I turned the key, starting the car as we drove to the school.
"Bye, Navy. Have a good day. Be kind ok." Navy rolled her eyes at my words as she waked in side. I felt like a parent watching their kid start the first day of school. Navy wasn't shy, but she wasn't out outgoing.
I took a breath before driving over to the bookstore. It's been a long time since I've been there was this elderly woman outside of another bookstore that happened to be right next to mine. "Hello, Ms. I'm LeAnna. Who might you be?" "Oh my yes, nice to meet you, dear. I'm Mimi. I own the bookstore next to what I assume is yours."
"Yes, it was grandpas but I inherited it. It's nice to meet you." I smiled as I unlocked the door to the bookstore. "Do you need help cleaning? My son Levi would love to help." "No, it's fine," I said, trying to be polite. "Too late." Mimi walked inside the bookstore, pulling out a boy- well, no, a man with a green fanel the was unbuttoned, showing off a white shirt that he had no right looking so good on his chest.
"Hello im levi my mom said you need some help, right?" Levi looked right into my eyes, but the way he spoke seemed like I was bothering him.
"No, but it seems like I, um, can't say no, so, please come in." I chuckled nervously. "I'm LeAnna, by the way." "I know. My mom told me." Levi shrugged as he walked in, looking at the mess of boxes and bookshelves everywhere.
He rolled up his sleeves as he started unpacking boxes and cleaning shelves. By the time we were done, I was so out of breath.
