"Dearest reader, the time has come to place our bets for the upcoming social season. Consider the household of the Baron Featherington. Three misses foisted upon the marriage market like sorrowful sows by their tasteless... tactless mama. Far better odds might exist in the household of the widowed Viscountess Bridgerton. A shockingly prolific family, noted for its bounty of perfectly handsome sons and perfectly beautiful daughters."

In a room getting ready were the oldest daughters of the Bridgerton household. "I'm nervous, Daph." The youngest twin spoke softly to her sister. Daphne, the eldest twin and daughter, put her hands on her sister's shoulders. "Don't be afraid, dear sister. We will stand by each other, Dolores."  They heard their little sister Eloise yell for them. "I best we get going before they have a fit." Dolores joked to her sister. The twins walked out of their bedroom to the outside. Daphne was more excited than her sister Dolores, who was quite nervous.  Colin was closest to Dolores, helping her on the carriage. But there wasn't a sign of Anthony making her nervous.

They rode in the carriage to the building where they were to be presented. Arriving, Daphne and Dolores got off the carriage. Dolores took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. Colin raised his arm for Dolores to take. "Nervous, Dolores?" Colin asked her. Dolores nodded. They walked in; Dolores, Daphne, and their mother were getting ready with all the other eligible  ladies.  Violet saw her daughter panicking slightly, so she took Dolores's hand to make her look at her. "Dolores, you are all right. Your sister and I are right beside you. Be yourself with her head held up high.

"Today is a most important day, and for some a terrifying one, for today is the day London's marriage-minded misses are presented to Her Majesty the Queen. May God have mercy on their souls." The Featheringtons were announced. "Miss Prudence Featherington, Miss Philipa Featherington, and Miss Penelope Featherington...all presented by their mother, the Right Honorable Lady Featherington."

"It is only the queen's eye that matters today. A glimmer of displeasure... and a young lady's value plummets to unthinkable depths." Dolores and Daphne were next. The door opened as they were announced, "Miss Daphne Bridgerton and Miss Dolores Bridgerton presented by her mother, the Right Honorable, the Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton." Dolores, with her head held up high, glided gracefully across the floor. Dolores, Daphne, and their mother curtsied in front of the queen. The Queen stood up, standing over the Bridgerton daughters, lifting Daphne's head. "Flawless, my dear." She walked over to Dolores, holding her head up. "Graceful like a swan but beautiful like a dove." Dolores was shocked by this. She went back down. Breathing calmly.
