As an aspiring sports reporter at Briar University, uncovering the truth had always come naturally to her. Every season, journalism students were assigned a different athletic program to cover, following the teams from preseason to championship day. Interviews, press conferences, road trips, and everything that came within— it wasn't just an assignment, it was the opportunity she'd been working toward since the day she stepped onto campus. A chance to prove to herself that she was capable, that she could do it.
This year, however, there was one small problem.
After spending the last two years covering Briar football, her professor had decided it was time for a change, which resulted in the hockey team being assigned to her.
And hockey was a sport she knew better than she'd ever admit. A sport she'd spent years trying to forget.
What was supposed to be just another assignment quickly became something far more complicated when one hockey player unexpectedly found his way into her story, making everything even more difficult than it already was. Somewhere between packed arenas, long bus rides, post-game interviews, and stories that weren't meant to be told, Josephine realized that maybe the hardest story she'd ever have to write was her own.
Because sometimes the truth wasn't found in the questions you asked, sometimes it was hidden in the ones you were too afraid to answer.
