Olivia
First day, 2009
"Okay Olivia, you can do this." I whisper to myself as I take my first steps towards the next six years of my life.
"Of course you can, your Olivia fucking Wilson." I turn my head towards the source of the noise and see my best friend, Amelia. She's a little blonde spitfire. I should've known it was her she is the only one here who isn't scared for her first day to a big new school.
"Oh my gosh, watch your language Amelia. The teachers are right over there" I respond by tilting my head toward the full crowd of faculty heads. Gosh she could really get herself in trouble before even stepping foot in the building, that would be a new record.
"Come on livy, what are they really gonna do anyway?" She says as she struts away straight through the front doors without an ounce of fear. It's hard to keep up with Amelia sometimes but I try my best. I go by everyone and catch up with her when I see she's already found a new friend. I swear she's all mouth, but it's what I love about her.
"Hey guys" I turn towards who she was chatting with. Seriously this girl, she makes friends anywhere she goes.
"Hi" A small voice pipes up and I squint my eyes. There's something about her that seems- "Wait a minute I know you, did you go to Willowbrook Primary?" She smiles a bright crooked smile and answers,
"Yeah, I'm Nina. I was in Mr Simpsons class so I didn't think you would recognise me."
Before I could say anything back Amelia jumped in.
"Oh my god I knew I recognised your face from somewhere. Sorry I couldn't tell." Nina shakes her head while smirking. "No, no it's okay, we never really spoke so it's understandable." I link my arms with Nina and say,
"Well we're just gonna have to change that. Aren't we Amelia?" She immediately links with Nina's other arm and responds with,
"We sure are livy."
We all make our way towards the assembly area for the introduction to secondary. We get a sneak peak at the type of people who will be in our class from other schools, that's the only good thing that comes out of this bore of a talk. We are all seated and the presentation begins. It drones on and on for a long while and I shift in my chair to feel more comfortable. More and more students grow tired and bored from this wasteful thing.
Amelia rests her head on my shoulder and passes out like she didn't just have twelve hours of sleep. She decides she isn't comfortable enough and she moves onto Nina's instead who doesn't seem bothered by it.
Since this will go on for about another thirty minutes I feel this is the best time to scope out who's all here.
I scan my eyes across the room and see a lot of scared faces, excited ones too, but the one that catches my attention is the one with none.
Huh strange...
A girl with brown shiny hair is spacing out towards the stage without an ounce of feeling on her face. It makes me wonder...
I continue on with my evaluation of the crowd when I spot a sea of blue. I move my gaze back to where it came from and am met with brown curls, freckles littering along his face and again those deep blue eyes staring directly at me.
I feel as though he can see through to my soul.
He looks like the girl I was studying before but instead, in place of the absence of expression she had, he has one of frustration and a little sadness.
