I wake up late into the night, my stomach was rumbling for a midnight snack, specifically chocolate.

"Must be that time of the month soon"

I muttered, followed with an exasperated sigh as I realised all I had in the kitchen was leftover pizza from yesterday's study session when I'd invited Erika over. To be honest it took a lot of guts for me to do, I mean sure she was lime the only one in my class that kept in touch with me but god was she intimidating to approach. The study session had gone off without a hitch though it had left me exhausted beyond comprehension. Must be why I went to bed so early and am now up at the ungodly hour that is 2am.

This was so sick and twisted. I wanted chocolate but there wasn't any.... ugh I'd have to go to the store at this time. I suppose at least the stores 24 hours so it's a plausible plan, I could take the shortcut through the forest too so I don't exhaust myself all over again. Sounds like a plan I determinedly confirmed to myself. With my mind made up I throw on a light jacket and put my shoes on before heading out the door. It was a lovely night to be honest, that was one of the perks of moving away from the city to a small town to study at college.

One of my favourite things since I'd moved out was to stargaze, the sky was so so beautiful especially in the heart of the woods where there was the least light pollution. Before I knew it I'd made it to the store and I bought 3 different chocolate bars and a fruit juice. Had to be prepared right? I thanked the worker when being handed my bag of goodies and walk out of the store into the slightly chilly outdoors.

As I make my way home through the pathway the starry night above entrances me. My body moves before my mind follows and I find myself straying off the path into the thicker woods. Id always loved the atmosphere of the woods it felt like a magical escape of my own. My own little world, perhaps because I always was caught up in my own world. But that's what made it so special to me... alongside being so familiar.

I must've been lost in my own train of thought for a while as when I snapped back to it I'd strayed further from the path than I'd realised. No no no, surely I could find my way back, I just need to backtrack.... but its hard to backtrack when I'd been fully zoned out. Fuck I'm such a dumbass who zones out like that this late at night alone in the woods no less. I was lost. Oh fuck. There I go again with my rotten ass luck. I look around in defeat and sit down on a tree stump groaning.

"Why of all nights did I have to get lost and cold and possibly wet on the night my period might fucking start."

I curse myself out under my breath before giving in and just deciding to accept my fate, reaching in my bag for a chocolate bar. I peel it and take a bite easing up a tad bit.

*snap*

I jump and look up to see a man in the distance, his body obscured by the shadow of the trees. My body is tensed up and I'm frozen in place scared out of my mind. Lost in the woods and murdered by a strange man is NOT the way I want to go no thank you but fuck my body was planted in place. I have no idea what to do and am subsequently spiralling once again, great aren't I? My train of thought was once again broken by the sound of.. an attractive male voice speaking out?

"Hi there."

I gulp and look up at the man again noticing him step closer all of a sudden. Instinctively my arm throws my chocolate bar into the air in his direction and my heart drops.

"I- i- uh- s-sorry?"

I hesitantly apologise still a nervous wreck.  My reply somehow illicits a chuckle from the man as he comes out of the shadows.

"It's quite alright doe-eyes. Did I scare you?"

The man's voice was rather soothing and enticing, it was hard not to get hooked on the honey-like melody.

"Well I'd be lying if I said you didnt."

I replied to him, extremely flustered but my guard still up.

"Are you perhaps lost? I don't see many folks out here this late all alone now. Speaking of are you new around here? I don't happen to recognise your face."

I stare at him wondering how he'd known I was lost and pondering on him not having had recognised my face. Whilst it's true I'd only moved here a few months ago, him calling me out on it must mean he's a local. How come nobody ever told me there was a mysterious man living in the woods... a hunk of a man too it seems. I'm snapped back to reality again by a concerned voice.

"Doe-eyes? Have I lost you? You still here-"

I stutter out a yes slightly embarrassed at my tendency to get lost in thought affecting our conversation.

"I dont mind helping you get home doe-eyes."

I look up at the man outreaching his hand towards me

"How can I trust you? I just met you."

He just seems to mischievously grin at my statement and reply:

"Thats true, would you rather stay lost in these woods here then o-"

Just the thought of being trapped here any longer alone all again made me instantly put my hand in his showing a sign of trust and bringing a sincere grin to his face albeit catching him off guard mid sentence. He clears his throat then helps me up onto my feet.

"Well then, seems I've got a little doe to help home. Ive got you."

I thank him and grab my bag, telling him roughly where my student accommodation was and asking him if he knew his way there.

"Dont you worry doe-eyes I know this woods like the back of my hand, Ill get you home in a jiffy."

Just like that and we were off on our way to my abode. I watched him in awe as he'd count the trees whilst passing and mumble something under his breath. It was interesting to see how he found his way around this place though I didn't understand it at all. I respected it and found it made him all the more intriguing. Eventually the trees started to thin out and I knew we were soon to be home. The conversation on the walk home was the most entertaining short while I'd had in a long while. I look up at him and admire his face before he catches me staring and lightheartedly teases me.

"I really enjoyed meeting and talking to you tonight, I hope we can do this again."

I smile at him and he smiles back.

"Sure doe-eyes and I'll even buy you some more snacks."

I look down at my bag confused until I notice what he noticed, some branch must've snagged the bag because it had a gaping hole and I'd lost all my loot.

"Awh! Gosh I hadn't even realised, I must be tireder than I thought. Thanks again for bringing me home I wish I could make it up to you, I'd literally be lost without you."

That makes him laugh.

"Haha you sure would be, wouldnt you doe-eyes? Well, how about you meet me here tomorrow huh? Call it a date."

My face flushes slightly at the term date but I nod. I'd love to get to know him better and from the sounds of it he's a good guy, I mean I made it out of the woods alive all thanks to him. I nod and hug him before leaving to go to my door. I wave goodbye to him before going inside. Once I was finally inside I kicked my shoes off and changed into pajamas flopping onto my bed and wiggling under the covers. It wasn't too hard at all to doze off as soon as the cozy warmthn enveloped my body.
