The clatter of metal clanging together now and then, causing the train to wobble slightly, the quiet conversations of people nearby, which fade into an unintelligible murmur to one, and the landscapes rushing past, which you don't quite take in.
And two girls, one asleep, the other with a piece of paper in front of her, who's been going over all the points in her head over and over again the whole time, two twin horse girls who were accepted into the Tracen Academy and are set to compete in the Twinkle Series in just under a month.
This is the story of two girls who celebrate their successes together, fail and get back up again, almost give up, but also save each other, twins who couldn't be more different.
"Hey wake up Mash, we're here" said Mushida as she tugged at her sleeping sister's new school uniform and shook her gently.
"Mhm~ five more minutes.." she mumbled, and her sister flicked her on the forehead "Ouch!"
Outside the train, Mashida rubbed her forehead "Man.. what was that all about, Mu-Chan? That hurt" she grumbled.
"It's your own fault, you sleepyhead. Come on now, they won't wait forever for us" she explained, leading the way, and Mash followed her grumpily but quickly so as not to be left behind.
(Fast) is a relative term here, the two are originally from Hokkaido and have rarely seen a big city.
The mere fact that there's no snow at all is new to them, and then there are all the people going about their daily lives, it was almost like culture shock for the two of them.
And while Mash is distracted by all the food stalls, Mushida is distracted by all the tall buildings in Tokyo that tower over everything she has ever seen; however, she is not the type to let that get in the way of her plans, which means she has to drag Mash away from all the stalls.
The only way to tell the twins apart is by their hair and eyes. Both have heterochromia, while Mashida's left eye is green and her right eye is blue, Mushida's is exactly the opposite, and while Mashida has long light brown hair that gets darker at the ends, with a gray streak in her bangs.
Mushida has short, just-past-shoulder-length dark brown hair, where only the strand on the left side is slightly longer and falls over her shoulder, also with a gray streak in her bangs. She also has a few white strands in her hair, where they come from is one of the things that will remain a mystery forever, but they are not dyed. Otherwise, the two are virtually indistinguishable in appearance, save for minor differences in their faces, such as two birthmarks under Mushida's eyes.
"Mash! We're going to be late! come on now!" she shouted as she wrapped her arms around her sister to pull her away from the deliciously fragrant carrot casserole.
"No, Mu-Chan!! These treasures are calling me!" Mash protested loudly "Do you want to cause them pain by not letting them fulfill their destiny?!"
"We can still eat! Come on now!" After more arguing, she finally managed to drag Mash along, who was mourning the loss of the carrot casserole, and Mushida was already afraid she might become severely depressed "You glutton..."
