Bangkok never truly slept. Before the sun had fully risen, the city's busiest streets were already illuminated by enormous digital billboards displaying the same familiar face. With a warm smile and graceful eyes, Bam welcomed millions of people into another day without even realizing it.
At only twenty-six years old, Bam had become Thailand's most sought-after actress. Every television station wanted her, every luxury brand competed for her endorsement, and every producer hoped she would accept their next script. To the public, she seemed to have everything-beauty, talent, fame, and success.
Reality, however, was far less glamorous than the image people admired on their screens. While most of Bangkok was still waking up, Bam was already seated in a makeup chair, quietly memorizing the script for today's filming. Her manager stood nearby, reading through a schedule so packed that even listening to it felt exhausting.
"Commercial shoot until noon," he said while scrolling through his tablet. "Then a magazine interview, followed by the script reading for your new drama. Tonight, you still have a luxury brand dinner."
Bam closed her script and sighed softly. "Do I get to eat somewhere in between?"
Her manager smiled apologetically. "We'll figure something out."
Bam simply nodded before closing her eyes for a few seconds. It wasn't unusual for her to survive on coffee, bottled water, and convenience-store sandwiches between schedules. She had grown used to sacrificing sleep and personal time long ago.
The makeup artist gently tapped her shoulder. "You're ready."
Almost instantly, Bam's tired expression disappeared. She stood up, smiled politely at everyone around her, and thanked each staff member before walking onto the filming set. It was a transformation she had perfected over the years.
"Camera rolling!"
The director's voice echoed through the studio. Within seconds, Bam became someone else entirely, delivering every line flawlessly while making every emotion appear effortless. Even after fourteen hours of filming, not a single person could tell she was already counting the minutes until she could finally return home.
Across the city, another young woman was beginning her day in a completely different world. Loud music filled an underground dance studio hidden beneath an old warehouse, where mirrors reflected dozens of dancers practicing in perfect synchronization. Standing confidently at the center was Oom.
Unlike Bam, Oom had no cameras following her. She wore an oversized black hoodie, loose training pants, and a baseball cap pulled low over her forehead. To strangers, she looked like any ordinary dancer preparing for another rehearsal.
"Five, six, seven, eight!"
The music exploded through the speakers.
Oom moved effortlessly across the floor, every step precise and every movement filled with confidence. Her body seemed to understand the rhythm before the music itself, earning cheers from everyone watching.
As the song ended, the room erupted into applause.
"I still don't understand how you're this good," one of the dancers laughed while catching his breath. "You're making the rest of us look bad."
Oom immediately shook her head. "Don't say that. We all improved together."
That was simply who she was.
Despite being one of the most respected names in Thailand's underground dance community, Oom never acted as though she was better than anyone else. She practiced with beginners, stayed behind to help struggling dancers, and never accepted praise without sharing the credit with everyone around her.
Lena walked over and handed Oom a bottle of water. "You're impossible."
"What did I do now?"
"You've rejected another television offer."
Oom laughed awkwardly before unscrewing the bottle. "I already told you. I dance because I love it."
"You could become famous."
"I don't want to."
Lena crossed her arms before smiling knowingly. "Is it because you don't want someone to recognize you?"
Oom's smile faltered for just a second.
"It isn't like that."
"Oh? Then why is Thailand's best underground dancer secretly following one actress more faithfully than her own fan club?"
A faint blush immediately appeared on Oom's cheeks.
Without saying a word, she reached for her phone. The lock screen displayed a simple photograph of Bam smiling during an interview, one that had been her wallpaper for nearly four years.
Lena laughed so hard that several dancers turned to look.
"You still haven't changed it?"
"I like this picture."
"You've said that for four years."
Oom looked down at the screen with a smile so gentle that Lena couldn't tease her anymore.
Four years earlier, Oom had visited a television station to deliver documents on behalf of O&A Media. She had gotten lost inside the building and accidentally wandered into a filming area where she wasn't supposed to be. Before security could escort her away, a young actress had kindly offered to help her find the correct office.
That actress was Bam.
It had only lasted a few minutes.
Bam had smiled, walked beside her, and wished her a good day before returning to filming. She probably forgot the encounter before lunchtime.
Oom never did.
Since then, she had quietly supported every drama, movie, interview, and award ceremony from afar. She never attended fan meetings hoping to be remembered, nor did she use her family's influence to get close to Bam. Loving someone silently had somehow become enough.
Later that evening, Bam finally returned home after another exhausting day. She had barely stepped inside when one of the house staff informed her that her parents were already waiting in the dining room. A strange feeling settled in her chest because family dinners were incredibly rare.
At the same time, Oom also arrived at her family's mansion after dance practice. She noticed both of her parents sitting together in the living room, their expressions unusually serious. For reasons she couldn't explain, her heartbeat quickened before either of them spoke.
Neither woman knew that, beneath the same evening sky, their lives were about to change forever.
The next words spoken inside both homes would become the beginning of a story neither of them had ever imagined.
