The studio lights were blinding.

Yoshiki shifted his weight, formatting his body into the stiff, unnatural angles the creative director demanded.

The heavy wool coat suffocating him cost more than his dad made in a year.He hated every second of it.

"Chin up, Yoshiki! Look into the lens like you're looking at something you want to destroy,"

the photographer yelled, the camera shutter clicking like a rhythmic heartbeat.Yoshiki swallowed hard. He didn't want to destroy anything. He just wanted to go back to their small town.
He wanted the smell of summer asphalt, the hum of cicadas, and the boy who used to walk beside him.But that boy was currently standing across the studio.Hikaru.Or, at least, the entity wearing Hikaru's face.

"Perfect! Hold that tension!" the photographer shouted.
Hikaru stepped into the frame. The temperature in the room seemed to drop five degrees. To the makeup artists and designers, Hikaru was a generational talent-a model with a facial symmetry so flawless it felt almost uncanny.
They called his vibe "avant-garde" and "ethereal." Yoshiki just called it terrifying.
Hikaru's eyes, a fraction too wide, locked onto Yoshiki's. He glided forward, completely silent, and rested a cold, heavy hand against Yoshiki's jaw. The touch sent a violent shiver down Yoshiki's spine.Don't look away, Yoshiki told himself, his chest heaving.
If you look away, everyone will see what he really is.

"You're shaking, Yoshiki," Hikaru whispered. His voice was a perfect imitation of the childhood friend Yoshiki had lost, but the cadence was just slightly off. Too smooth.

Too hollow.

"Shut up and just pose," Yoshiki muttered through gritted teeth, keeping his eyes glued to the camera.

Hikaru smiled.

It was a beautiful, blinding expression that didn't reach his eyes. He leaned in closer, his lips brushing Yoshiki's ear, perfectly hidden from the camera's view.

"They like it when you look at me like that," Hikaru murmured, his grip tightening just enough to bruise.

"Like you're looking at a ghost."

The camera shutter went wild.

"Brilliant! The chemistry is insane!" the director cheered, clapping his hands.

"Wrap it up! That's the cover!"As the lights dimmed, Hikaru didn't let go. He leaned his forehead against Yoshiki's, his shadow stretching unnaturally long against the white backdrop."See?" Hikaru whispered, his voice buzzing with a strange, internal resonance. "We look so good together in the light."Yoshiki closed his eyes, trapped in the glamorous, terrifying reality they couldn't escape.
