"Sharma, you're leaning," Tara murmured, her eyes strictly fixed on the spreadsheet on her laptop.
"I'm resting," Abhishek corrected softly. He had his chin propped on his hands, arms crossed over the edge of her desk, staring up at her like she had created the stars. He was still in his training jersey, smelling faintly of the afternoon sun and clean laundry. "Your desk is the only quiet place in this entire stadium, Tar. Let me stay for five minutes."
Tara's fingers paused on the keyboard. She hated how her heart did that stupid, erratic dance whenever he shortened her name. She refused to look down at him, knowing she'd melt into a puddle if she met those warm, puppy-dog eyes.
Without a word, she reached into her drawer, pulled out a sour cherry candy, and dropped it right in front of his nose.
Abhishek's grin was instant, blinding, and entirely too soft. He didn't take the candy. Instead, he reached out, his warm index finger gently hooking around her pinky finger where it rested near the spacebar. He didn't pull, he just held it there, his thumb brushing light, soothing circles against her skin.
"Thanks, Tar," he whispered.
Tara's face flushed a deep, brilliant crimson. She kept her eyes glued to the screen, but her hand didn't move an inch away from his.
