Landon is mean. He takes and takes from her, and from everyone else around him. He breaks hearts. And the bones of everyone who attempts to cross him. Anyone who challenges him, is bound to leave with a few scars. And she has the most.
In all fair, hers aren't physical, but they remain there, embedded in her being. Part of her. Part of who she is. Constantly reminding her of the red thread that links them together.
They all call it love. And maybe if it was someone else, if it were to be literally anyone else besides the two of them, maybe it could really be love. But with them, it is impossible. Neither knows how do it. And they never will.
Where loyalty is everything, they have broken each other's trust before, and that scar may never heal.
