The party was over, and Mia and Charlotte were cleaning up. Mia had her hands full of paper plates and cups when she noticed Charlotte staring at her from across the room, one hand frozen on the "Happy Birthday" banner.
Mia rolled her eyes, smiling.
"You know, this would go a lot faster if you stopped staring."
Charlotte blinked. "What?"
"You're staring again."
"I am not. I'm... supervising."
"Supervising?" Mia lowered her glasses just enough to look at her over the lenses. "Right."
Charlotte groaned, tipping her head back. "Now that's not fair."
Mia pushed her glasses back into place, her expression shifting. "Be honest, baby. Do I actually look good, or were you all just trying to make me feel better?"
Charlotte didn't answer right away. Instead, she crossed the room, took the plates from Mia's hands, and set them aside. Her hands settled lightly at Mia's waist.
"Hey," she said softly. "You always look gorgeous." Her mouth curved. "But in those glasses..." she exhaled, shaking her head. "Oof."
Mia huffed out a quiet laugh, a little flustered. "I thought you liked women in uniform."
"I do." Charlotte leaned in just slightly. "But I've got a soft spot for the sexy librarian look."
Mia's breath caught. "Char..."
Charlotte's thumb brushed lightly along her side, just enough to make her shiver.
"Oh," Mia whispered, half laughing under her breath. "You are dangerous."
Charlotte smiled, slow and sure. "And you like it."
Mia held her gaze this time instead of looking away.
"Maybe I do," she said.
That was all the invitation Charlotte needed. She closed the distance between them, kissing her—soft at first, like she was testing it. Mia leaned in before she could think better of it, her hands catching at Charlotte's shirt, and the kiss deepened, warmer, more certain.
Charlotte's lips trailed from her mouth toward her neck—
—and Mia pulled back, breath unsteady, eyebrows raised.
Charlotte stilled, then smirked. "I told you you looked good."
Mia glanced around the room, cheeks warm. "We still have cleaning to finish."
Charlotte glanced at the half-fallen banner, the stack of cups, then back at Mia. Decision made.
"It can wait."
She tangled their fingers together and started pulling her toward the bedroom.
"Oh?" Mia said, letting herself be led anyway.
Charlotte glanced back over her shoulder, eyes bright.
"Come with me," she said. "I need you to take off everything..."
Mia raised a brow.
Charlotte's smile sharpened just a touch.
"Everything," she repeated softly, "but those glasses."
The bedroom door clicked shut behind them.
