"When you were speaking to your father?" You see Killua tense up and look away from you. You took that as a sign to continue since you knew he wasn't going to answer any time soon, "I was concious. I didn't use my swords so I was only knocked out a bit from hitting my head." Killua just nods and you sigh deeply. You heart was going haywire. I was in between a state of rapid palpitation and absolute stillness. When it beat rapidly it felt like it was going to pop right out of your chest, when it froze, it felt like a hand was squeezing it in attempts to crush it.
"What did you hear?" He asks calmly, still not meeting your eyes.
"Not much..." You say, "But enough."
"Oh."
"Ya."
You both sit there in silence. The only sound was the beating of your heart building in your ears. "So, did you mean what you said?" You ask, "T-That, that you-"
"That I like you?" He asks, completing your sentence and turning to face you. This time you couldn't meet his gaze and eyed the floor. You nod and fiddle with your fingers, trying to distract yourself from the current awkwardness.
"Ya." He said using his hand to tilt your chin up to face him.
"'Ya' what?" You ask, unable to meet his eyes. and looking just past his ear.
"I mean, ya I meant what I said to my dad: About liking you, about liking you every since I met you and about wanting to tell you soon. " He caressed your cheek, forcing you to look into his bright blue eyes which were now filled with only his love for you. "This isn't exactly how I planned on telling you, but I guess it'll have to do."
You lose yourself in his eyes and your breaths falter. He smirks when he find you at a loss for words and continues. "Y/n, I've liked you from the moment I saw you, but was too afraid to admit it. I wanted to see you the way you saw me, as a sibling, but I just couldn't. I tried so hard to suppress my feelings for you because I knew you probably wouldn't return them, but nothing I did worked. My mind always betrayed me, thinking only about you. When I was alone in the basement of my family's estate, I could only think about what you must think of me, how ashamed and disgusted you must've been after what I did. You can't imagine the ecstasy I felt when I saw you walk into the room, your cheeks stained with worry for me. I know it's selfish of me to be happy seeing you cry over me, but I was. I hated how you saw me as just a friend, no matter how hard I tried to make you think different. I hated how much I thought about you and how much just being near you affected me when I knew you probably didn't feel the same about me. I hate how even now, I can't shake the possibility of me being wrong about how you feel. No matter how small it is, I hate how I still cling onto that and hope for it. I hate how I won't accept you not feeling the same way unless I hear it from you directly."
You stare at him wide-eyed. You heart officially stopped that you grasped you hand to your chest trying to feel the pulse. You looked at your bare hands, hoping for the perfect response to his confession to be there, but it wasn't. You stared at Killua, his eyes searching yours but you knew he was just as lost as you. You didn't have an answer for him. Not yet. You had to think. As much as you hated to admit it, you clearly felt something for both him and Kurapika and making an impulsive choice now, may ruin everything you have with both of them. You needed time alone, time to think.
"Killua, I love you, I really do, but I don't know exactly in what way I do yet. Whether in a friendly way of more than that. I don't know. I have to think. Can you give me the night? I know how much you've been waiting, but please be a little more patient with me? One more night?"
