ESTELLA WOOD
sixth year - gryffindor - pureblood

Born 2nd September 1979. Younger sister to Oliver Wood, though you wouldn't know it to look at them - he fills every room he enters and she simply exists in them, quietly, like something the room needed without knowing it. Strawberry blonde hair, long and straight. A wand of rosewood, unicorn hair core, flamed with phoenix fire, nine and a quarter inches. Her patronus is a hare. She likes bread and quiet and even numbers - four people in a room, six, never five, never three. She hates olives and green apples and loud things in general. She has never needed many words. If you hear a soft oh from somewhere nearby, that's her. That's always her.

DRACO MALFOY

He had decided, before he ever spoke to her, that Estella Wood was not worth his attention. He maintains this. He has to. Because the alternative - that she is the only person in this castle who looks at him without agenda, without fear, without the particular exhaustion everyone else carries around him - is not something he knows what to do with. He seeks her out in empty rooms and tells himself it means nothing. He loves olives and green apples. He has not yet noticed what that means.

OLIVER WOOD

Three years her senior and approximately three hundred percent louder. He loves his sister with his whole chest and has never once understood her - not her quietness, not her stillness, not the way she seems unbothered by things that would flatten other people. When he finds out about Malfoy he will have a full crisis about a Quidditch match before he has a full crisis about the actual situation. In that order. Estella will tell him he'll be fine. He will not be fine.

HARRY POTTER

Doesn't quite know what to make of her, if he's honest. She's never been unkind to him, never been anything but quietly present when he needed it, but she exists slightly outside of the chaos he's always at the center of and he respects that about her. When the Malfoy thing starts becoming impossible to ignore he watches it with a kind of cautious uncertainty. He wants to trust it. He's not there yet.

RON WEASLEY

Estella Wood has never once raised her voice at him and Ron finds this either incredibly soothing or deeply suspicious depending on the day. He's known her through Oliver for years. She used to hand him bread from the table without being asked because she noticed he was always hungry and never said anything about it. He would die for her. He also thinks the Malfoy situation is mental and has said so. Loudly. She said oh and walked away and somehow that ended the conversation.

HERMIONE GRANGER

Respects her deeply and quietly worries about her in equal measure. Estella is clever in a way that doesn't announce itself - observant, careful, always three steps ahead of a situation. Hermione sees it and appreciates it. What she cannot reconcile is the Malfoy thing, not easily, not without reservation. She watches. She waits. She keeps her concerns to herself because Estella has never once needed to be told how to read a room.

FRED WEASLEY

Has a running bet - started by him, obviously - on when Malfoy will finally do something about the way he looks at Estella. Current pot stands at twelve galleons. Has categorically refused to tell Oliver about the bet on the grounds that Oliver would actually combust. Thinks Estella is one of the best people he knows and also thinks it is hilarious that she put her own money in. Six weeks. She said six weeks, calm as anything, and walked away. Fred has not stopped laughing about it since.

GEORGE WEASLEY

Holds the bet money. This was a mistake because he keeps almost losing it. Softer about the whole thing than Fred is - he's watched Estella for six years and he thinks, privately, that if anyone could get through to Malfoy it would be someone who never tried to. Doesn't say this out loud. Puts another galleon in the pot instead. Six weeks, same as Estella. He's not betting against her.
