TYLER
The woods behind Beacon Hills were quiet, too quiet.
That was the first thing Tyler Hale noticed as he stepped out onto the back porch of Deaton's clinic. The California night air was cold against his skin, carrying the scent of rain, pine, and something metallic underneath it all.
Blood.
Tyler leaned against the railing, tugging the hood of his dark sweatshirt over the black cap sitting backwards on his head. Most people in Beacon Hills had no idea he existed.
That was the point.
The Hale name carried too many ghosts.
After the fire, after the hunters, after everything their family had lost, Talia Hale made the choice to hide her youngest son from the supernatural world as much as possible. Only a handful of people knew Derek Hale had a younger brother.
And Tyler intended to keep it that way.
The back door creaked open behind him.
"You're brooding again."
Tyler glanced over his shoulder to see Alan Deaton standing there with crossed arms and tired eyes.
"I learned from Derek," Tyler replied.
Deaton sighed. "That explains a lot, actually."
Tyler smirked faintly.
For years, Deaton had been more than the family emissary. He'd become family. After the fire, Tyler stayed with him more often than not, hidden away from hunters and anyone who might use him to get to Derek.
Safe.
Or at least as safe as Beacon Hills allowed.
Deaton stepped beside him, looking toward the dark tree line.
"You feel it too?"
Tyler's expression hardened.
"Something's in the woods."
Before Deaton could answer, the distant sound of sirens echoed through the night.
Tyler's eyes narrowed instantly.
A body.
Again.
AURORA
And somewhere across town, Beacon Hills was about to change forever.
Aurora Hayes hated moving back here when she loved traveling with her family as they are wild life photographers.
Especially back in a town literally called Beacon Hills.
It sounded fake. Like a town in one of those supernatural mystery shows Lydia Martin forced her to watch during sleepovers when they were kids.
Aurora climbed out of her mom's car with a groan, stretching her stiff legs as she stared up at the massive Martin house.
"Well," she muttered, brushing her light hair from her face, "at least their house is still as pretty."
"it'll do you for a few more years," her aunt Natalie said warmly as she opened the front door. "Lydia's excited you're staying with us again."
Aurora raised a brow.
"Lydia Martin? Excited?"
Natalie laughed, while auroras mom gave her a hug goodbye
"your father and i will send you post cards every month"
as they pulled away she gave her a kiss on the cheek and said bye as aurora stepped inside the house.
Inside the house, heels clicked rapidly against hardwood.
"Finally," Lydia Martin announced dramatically as she appeared at the top of the staircase. "Do you know how hard it's been being the smartest person in this town alone?"
Aurora grinned despite herself.
"second smartest now"
Lydia rushed down the stairs and hugged her quickly before pulling back.
"you've got style now"
"haven't i always"
Aurora rolled her eyes affectionately.
Nothing about Lydia had changed.
But something about Beacon Hills felt... off.
Aurora couldn't explain it.
Maybe it was the strange silence outside.
Maybe it was the way her skin prickled like she was being watched.
Or maybe it was because, at that exact moment, somewhere deep in the woods surrounding Beacon Hills, glowing blue eyes snapped open in the dark.
And for the first time in years, Tyler Hale smiled.
Because chaos was coming.
And Beacon Hills never survived chaos quietly.
