William fixed his bowtie one last time before turning around and facing the mirror in his room. He stood before the piece of glass, drinking in his regal beauty, which was comparable only to that of the most famous detective in the world.
Tonight was important. They were attending a ball hosted by Lord Sacter, a prominent noble who had recently joined the British military. Due to his high-ranking social status, he received a high-ranking military position.
Albert recently found out he was misusing secret military information to run smuggling rings of slaves and children. Lord Sacter would inform the smugglers where security was lax, and sometimes would even go as far as to tamper with soldiers' posting orders. In return, the smugglers would pay him fifty percent of the money they earned from selling the slaves.
William sighed. He was disgusted at how many people were born into this glorious empire who did not even deserve to be sent to hell.
He couldn't trust anyone outside his found family. He couldn't afford to laugh, or relax, or even feel the satisfaction of telling the truth for once.
Well, that wasn't all right. There was one person in his life. The one person in front of whom William could laugh. The one person with whom William could relax. The one person who didn't make him look like a kaleidoscope, changing colour when you looked at him from a different angle. That person was none other than aforementioned detective, Sherlock Holmes.
William knew, after they would eliminate Sacter, Holmes would take the responsibility of the case. The man had a natural aversion to Scotland Yard, and if William was being honest with himself, he agreed with his Sherly.
Sherly. William would sometimes call the detective by that name, just to see his brilliant smile. Oh, how he wished he could tell Sherly about all this. It felt terrible to lie to him, every single time they met.
A soft knock on his bedroom door broke William's chain of thought."Brother, are you ready yet?"asked Louis from outside his door. "Yes, I'll be out in a minute," William replied.
"Oh well, no use thinking about all this poppycock. Better get moving, it's going to be a long night".
