They said Saithan was dead.

The official report was clean, final, and carefully erased into Kaelorin's endless archive of forgotten tragedies: missing, presumed deceased after corporate conflict incident.

For twenty years, that was the truth everyone agreed on. Even Wei Ling learned how to live with it.

Not accept it. Not fully. Just... survive around it. She built her life like a room with one locked door she never opened. On the best days, she could pretend it wasn't there. On the worst, she stood in front of it for hours without touching the handle.

Arisa never corrected the rumor either..Because in her world, survival meant controlling what stories were allowed to exist. And Saithan's story had ended too violently for anyone to keep asking questions. Until the night it didn't.

───

The rain that night didn't fall gently. It came down like the city itself was trying to erase something.

Wei Ling was leaving the hospital when she saw her.At first, it was just a silhouette near the edge of the streetlight-still, unmoving, like someone who didn't know whether they were allowed to exist in public anymore.

Then the wind shifted. And Wei Ling's world stopped. It wasn't recognition in the way memory works. It was recognition in the way pain works.
Her body knew before her mind did.
Saithan.

Older. Quieter. Sharper around the edges like she had been carved down by years instead of time. Wei Ling's breath caught. Her hand slipped from her bag.

"...No," she whispered, because the mind rejects miracles before it accepts them.

Saithan looked at her like she was trying to decide whether she was real too.

For a second, neither of them moved.
Then Saithan spoke. "Wei Ling."
Just her name. But it shattered everything.

───

Wei Ling crossed the space between them before she could think.

She didn't run.

She didn't hesitate.

She just reached.

Her hand touched Saithan's sleeve like she was checking if the world was lying.

Warm. Real. Wei Ling's voice broke. "You're- you're supposed to be-"
"Dead," Saithan finished quietly.

A silence fell between them, heavy with everything that had been stolen.
Wei Ling shook her head once, small and desperate. "I waited..."

Saithan's eyes lowered-not away from her, but away from the weight of that sentence. "I know."
That was the problem.
She did know..And still didn't come back.

───

Arisa arrived ten minutes later.
She always arrived when things were already breaking.

Her presence changed the air instantly. Controlled. Sharp. A lifetime of survival wrapped in a single breath.
But when she saw Saithan-
Something in her cracked.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

Just enough for her to stop breathing properly for half a second. Because Saithan wasn't supposed to be standing there.

Not alive.

Not in front of Wei Ling.

Not after everything Arisa had done to keep the past buried.

"...Saithan," Arisa said, and for the first time in years, her voice wasn't command.

It was disbelief.

Saithan finally looked at her mother.
And there it was.

Not hatred.

Not forgiveness.

Just exhaustion. "I didn't die," Saithan said simply. "I just stopped being found."

───

Wei Ling looked between them, confusion breaking through grief. Arisa didn't answer right away.
Because she understood what Saithan's return meant.

Everything she had tried to protect-everything she had broken-had not ended the story. It had only delayed it.

───

That night, nothing was resolved.
No reunions fixed the past. No tears repaired twenty years of absence.
But something shifted in the ruins of their lives.

Wei Ling didn't let go of Saithan's hand the entire time they walked away from the streetlight.

Saithan didn't pull away And Arisa followed behind them, realizing something she had spent her entire life avoiding:

Some loves don't die.
They just wait long enough to come back and demand the truth.
