Remus had been talking about it all year, it was all he could think about, he waited and waited, they were all at James's house, and Remus being head boy soon was all he could think about or talk about! But Sirius was getting annoyed,
'Damn it Mooney! We get it, you're gonna be head boy soon, big deal!'
'Come on Padfoot,' James began, 'Why so Sirius?' he had a wide grin on his face, that Sirius just glared at. Then, an owl came flying in, with a list of books.
Remus clenched his eyes, carefully opening the letter and-
Nothing. Just the Hogwarts letter of reminders and books.
'Bad luck Remus,' Sirius said, looking at Lupin's disappointed face. 'It's all right, being head boy means more responsibilities.'
'Could never be me!' James laughed, but just then- 'Ow!' -a metal badge fell out and hit his foot. Sirius and Remus's eyes widened,
'I don't believe it.' Sirius spoke. Sure enough, the sparkling silver badge had "Head Boy-James Potter" engraved on it. James expected Remus to be upset, or angry, but he looked- happy?
'Congrats James.'
'Wait? What? Didn't you want to be Head boy?'
'I did for a bit, but then I remembered that Lily sent the letter saying she got her head girl badge yesterday-'
'Would love to see petunia's reaction to that!'
'-and the whole of sixth year she just talked about you. Kind of annoying actually.'
'James? You boys ready for dinner-?' Mrs Potter stopped when she saw the shiny badge in her son's hand, 'Is that- the head boy badge? Oh Jamie!' She ran towards him and pulled him into a hug, though he tried to resist.
'Mum- Can't- Breath!' Sirius and Remus were laughing in the background where James could see them, and he shot a glare at them. Mrs Potter finally let go and ran to grab her husband.
'Nice Jamie!' Sirius mocked, while Lupin fell back laughing.
'Sod off Padfoot.' Remus and Sirius started laughing, eventually getting a few chuckles out of James. Though he wasn't one for responsibility, being with his girlfriend during head boy and girl duties was like a dream come true!
He went to the loo quickly before dinner, and Mrs Potter ordered all the boys to go to bed early so they wouldn't miss the train.

The next morning was a rush, Remus was already in the bathroom by the time he got up, and Sirius (who had been desperate for a wee since he awoke) dashed in after him. Jame's decided he didn't have time, so grabbed a slice of toast, put on his robes, and they dashed to the train station.
'James!' He heard a voice call out behind him, just as he was about to get on the train, 'I've missed you!' Lily Evans sprung forward, hugging him tight. Behind her was a grumpy Petunia Evans, and Lily's parents. Lily's mother walked towards James,
'Oh, you must be James! Of course, Lily has told me all about you, she was not wrong when she said you were handsome!' Mrs Evans gushed.
'Thank you.' He replied but was occupied by the nasty glare Petunia was giving him. Lily giggled,
'Tuney! Come say hi to James! You've met Petunia of course James,'
'Hard to forget her.'
Mrs Evans looked expectantly at Petunia, who rolled her eyes and came forward,
