BECOMING HIS WIFE
CHAPTER 1
“Aziyena!”
“Heyi wena Aziyena!,” that's my mother screaming her cords to d3ath. Just kidding.
“Aziyena vuka kulo mbhede wena!” Yeah I was sleeping, not anymore.
I don't understand why old people wake up so early, like it's a normal thing for them to do. I slowly got up from the bed even though I don’t want to. But if I don't my mother will end me i know for sure.
I have a little headache, I hiss at the pain that rushes in after I sit up straight. I need to answer her or else she will budge in here looking like a marine soldier.
I slowly lift up my head, “Coming mah!” I think that was loud enough for her to hear me.
I check the time on my phone in the night stand, it's 5:00AM straight. Thixo onofefe, what did I do to deserve this kind of punishment? My work start at 7AM I usually wake up at 6AM but this morning things have changed.
I get up from the bed, take my phone, put on my pajamas. Before you even ask, yes I sleep naked. I sleep so comfortably like that and I swear I don't get any bed dreams.
I walked out of my room heading to the kitchen before my mother comes to hunt me. I find her sitting on the sofa watching TV. I sighed silently because if she hears me I will be Mozisi number 2.
“Mah?,” I say sitting down infront of her, “why did you call me?” I ask.
“I want you to make a cup of tea, Aziyena” she says not even looking at me.
She is watching these Indians that speak IsiZulu.
They are fun and all but when you watch them all day they tend to bore you. Not my mother though.
Indian and Turkish drama? Yhuu they are everything to her.
“Haibo mama, is that why you woke me?” I ask her thinking she would say “no I'm joking” then laugh after that.
But cha!
The big woman is serious, i know because the look in her face says it all. I look away for her to the TV then I look at her after a while.
“I'm serious young lady,” she says looking back on the television.
“You are the one that's asked me to wake you up for work, so just be grateful I did” she says again.
With that being said I rush to the kitchen without arguing with her, if I do, she will never wake me up again. I know that woman, she will say I'm ungrateful.
I pour the water on the kettle then plug it in to the electricity, in the meantime I make sure to cup are ready for when the water is warm. Yes, I'm making one for myself. It's still morning, cold, because winter is starting. I think I will need someone to hug me with I sleep because lena?
Hai ayiyo abeg! I would freeze to d3ath I'm telling you. The water becomes warm and the kettle automatically switch itself off. I pour it from the cups then I put them cups in the tray then go to the living room where my mother is watching television at.
“Here mother,” I put the tray on the table then take my cup and put sugar and milk.
“Should I do yours too?” I ask because she is just looking at me now.
“No, you make the tea to sweet” she says.
Oh? Well I didn't know that.
Does that mean from now on she will do it on her own? I'm curious but I won't ask her.
Andingaka funi ukufa bantu!
It was about time i go to work now, i leave home around 06:30 to catch the morning taxi while the are still empty. I know that could be dangerous for a woman, but I usually catch them with people. And it's still dark outside, remember winter is here and you know how it is.
Assemble told me I will meet her at work today, her boyfriend probably will take her home. She is so luck to have a man that has a car and a house. I hear he is talking about marriage these day, and that is driving my poor friend crazy. Everyday feels like it could be the day he will propose to her, but then he doesn't. But everyday is hope he will finally do it.
“Mah! I'm leaving for work now” I shout so that she hears me.
“Be careful yezwa” She says.
For a woman that shouted earlier like she was going to k!ll me, she sure cares alot about her daughter.
“Okay mah! I love you!” I say then wait for her tro say it back.
“Kuthanda nami ngane yam, love you too” she says.
I must take my leave now or else I might get shouted on if I keep interrupting her on her Indian dramas. I wrap the scarf around my nake then head out. I walk in that darkness, though you can see a sunlight behind the mountains. It will take some time for it to rise. A car approaches as i was about to cross the street and go to the side i usually hike on. It stops infront of me. The windows are black and it's freaking me out that they just stopped even though I didn't raise my finger to stop in. The window roles down and I see a man with a scary look in the driver's seat.
“Where are you headed miss?” He ask with a gentle voice.
Hard face, cold stare and a lovely voice.
Hayi! That's not a good combo shame.
But then that is someone father, I should keep my thoughts silence or one time I will say something by mistake.
“Hmm I heading close to KFC” I tell him and he glance at the back for a second then back at me.
“Okay miss, we'll give you a ride.” He says.
First of all, I'm a very observant person and I observe even the words themselves.
He said “We” right? Now what are the chances that the other person in that car is a guy? I think 99%, but I shouldn't underestimate woman which is why I gave them the remaining 1%.
I gave them that percentage because I'm a woman too I know how they think and do things. Woman are what you call wild beast. Having a driver? Who is a guy by the way. Well I don't have to tell you twice how dangerous is that.
But back to the topic in hand, “I would appreciate that…how much will that cost me?” I ask because the car they are driving is a Mercedes Benz.
By the looks of it I think it might be the new model, I don't know much about cars so I won't try to give this once a name.
“It's a free hike miss” he says.
Now who can refuse a free hike? Well certainly not me!. I go to the backseat without even saying a word. Open the car then dive right in.
Like I said, there is 1% chance of finding a woman in the backseat. It's a man by the way and he is not even looking my way. He is wearing a mask though. I'm curious to see his face, but these damn mask became famous after covid 1-9 in 2020.
“Good morning” I say as I settle down.
“Hi” the man on the back gives me a dry greeting.
“How are you?” I ask.
I'm asking because my mother taught me to normalize asking people about life. So I'm making her proud this morning.
At first I thought he was thinking about it, but then 5 minutes passed by without a answer. That when I knew I should've just kept my mouth shut.
The way to work felt longer than usual, but when I got there I didn't hesitate to thank the driver then I rush out without saying a woman to the man that was sitting besides me.

“Take me to my uncle's place before I head to work” Sbanesezwe says looking out the window.
Mkhokheli look at the rare view “Yes sir”.
He ws aware of what was about to go down, but he didn’t have a say in this. He is just a driver and he doesn't even know how to handle a gvn or knife.
He has worked for this family for years and he has never interfere about what was going to happen.
Shane's phone rings, he glance at it then picks it up. “Don't do it, Sbane” his friend Anathi says.
“I have bo other choice Anathi and you know that” Sbane says.
“No bafo there ia always a choice,” Sbane kept quiet because he could sense that his friend was not done talking.
“You are just choosing to do this” Anathi says.
To Sbane his friends doesn't get what he went through as a kid because of that man.
“Don't worry man I'm going there to say hello” Sbane says keeping his chill like always.
He just lied to his friend now.
He forced him into it. What is he suppose to do after he found out that his uncle is the one that k!lled his father and sister about five years from now.
“Sir we are here” Mkhokheli says stopping the car.
His uncle is more of a village person but now he has a feeling that the man of the house is not here.
His uncles family has never liked him and that shouldn't give him the right to do what he is about to do now. But it's the only way he could think of to take r3venge for his father and sister.
“Are you sure about this sir?” For the first time Mkhokheli steps out of line.
“Yes” Sbane answers cold with no remorse in his voice.
Sbane steps out of the car with a gvn in his hand, his uncle will know what he made him go through all those five years. It doesn’t take long for him to reach the door by the pace he is walking by. The sun is about to rice and this is a village so many people are still fixing their breakfast. His knock lands soft on the door and he hears footsteps walking towards the door.
He has already put a silence on the door, so it won't make a noise. The door opens and the smile on Ntombikayise disappears. Maybe she thought is was his father but surprise it's their unknown horror of the day.
“What are you doing here?” Ntombikayise roars.
She is four years younger than Sbane but her tone doesn't say so.
“Who is it, Ntombi?” That's the woman of the house shouting.
“It's–” Sbane immediately put a b-ullets on her head and quickly holds her before she makes a noise when she fells.
He put her down gently then walk towards the kitchen were his uncle's wife was shouting on. She was busy making noodles, oh, these people were living a life.
“Morning mah” Sbane says, she quickly turns upon hearing his voice.
“What are you doing here you fool?” She ask.
“I was hoping your husband was home, but it looks like he was still with his mistress” Sbane says.
“Shut up fool!” She grabs a knife.
“You don't know what you talking about!” She says.
This is how much they hate him, he hasn't shown the gvn to her yet she is already holding a knife in her hand.
“Don't worry, I'm here to stop all that pain for you” Sbane says then pulls out the gv-n and shots her immediately in the same place as her daughter.
He walks out out the house like nothing as happened and get inside the car.
“Let's go” he says and Mkhokheli doesn't say anything but obeys.
