Mary Jones was a normal 24-year-old girl in the 1940s apart from WW2 of course. Initially, she had decided to stay away from all the war and "political nonsense" as she called it until her best friend enlisted. Steve Rogers.

"Steve?!" Mary shouted as they walked down the streets. "How could you?! I thought we had a deal?! No army! No being apart!" Mary's brown-blonde hair shone from the fires in the lanterns that lit up the street. Steve could never tell what colour her hair was as it always changed colour with the sun. Her blue eyes reflected the moon light of the innocent yet daunting sky. Curls of her hair bounced up and down as she shouted at Steve and her heels clicked along the ground.

"Mary. I know. We agreed. But my country needs me." Steve sighed as he walked with his hands in his pockets on the outside of the pavement. He was about 5'3" whilst Mary was 5'7". 5'9" with heels on to be precise. So then height different was there but that's why made them such good best friends, the constant joke of how short Steve was.

"But I need you too Steve. Who's going to make me pancakes before we go for our morning walk?! Who's going to go on the morning walk with me?!" Mary gasped putting her hand on her heart acting with a smile on her face.

"Mary. Our country needs me. Needs us. Why don't you be a nurse?" Steve asked even though he hated the idea of Mary being anywhere near danger. At all.

"Me? A nurse? With loads of young men waiting in line just to hit on me?" Mary asked. "No thanks I'll pass. Plus, you're just fighting a war that people with lots of money and people think are so good have started. And we have to finish it. The common people, who have nothing to do with that rich leaders desires but still have to fight for it anyway. Because it's for 'our country.' No it's for them."

"Okay." Steve said smiling shaking his head. "Whatever you say Jones. I've still enlisted, no going back now."

"Like they'd let you in anyway. Steve in case you haven't noticed, which is a possibility because it is you... you're a twig. No muscle. No strength. Brains. But nothing else. I mean..." Mary chuckled. "The gun you have to use probably weighs more than you."

"Alright okay. I'm definitely not taking the enlisting back. Get away from your sarcastic ass." Steve joked with a big grin on his face. Mary groaned and rolled her eyes.

"Fine!" Mary shouted out. "I'll join the nurses! Have to keep you alive somehow."

That night Steve found himself in the enlisting doctor's office. The next thing he knew he was getting shouted at by Mary again.

"So you're in the army?!" Mary shouted as she looked at Bucky and back at Steve.

"He gave me a chance and I took it." Steve said holding up his arms in surrender.

"It's the right thing to do Mary." Bucky said. "We're gonna need all the help we can get out there." Of course. The soldier that hasn't been in any conflict or seen the war in real life was seeing this from the news. "Cmon. I'll make sure he comes back in one piece." Bucky slung an arm over Steve's fragile shoulders.

"Now I have to join the nurses that swoon over any guy in uniform that they see." Mary rolled her eyes sighing as she started walking again in line with the two boys.

"Don't worry I told the other girls I'm taken. For you of course Mary." Bucky smirked his other arm now slinging over Mary's shoulders as well as Steve's.

"Please. The only taken you'll be is taken by the Germans for being too cocky." Mary joked punching his ribs. Steve laughed hard into the night air. Bucky just doubled over from the punch from Mary. "You two just have to promise me something. You'll come back. Can't have some random person saving me from parties can I now?"

"Oh we'll be back." Steve smiled facing Mary again. "Can't leave our girl alone." Mary smiled brightly at him saying that and patted both of their backs.

"Let's get going to this Stark thing anyway." Bucky chuckled as all three of them walked off to the event.
