This show contains songs from musicians and musicals. its about a little boy in early 20th century England (aged 9 at the start and 14 at the end) called Pete he moves around quite a bit throughout the story. at the start he is living in an orphanage with his older brother called Tommy (aged 13 at the start and 18 at the end) a younger brother called Johnny (aged 4 at the start) and a younger sister called Gina (aged 2). he loves rocketships and likes flying around pretending to be one. his elder brother takes care of them but isn't very affectionate towards Peter and is quite violent towards him causing Pete to sing songs like "I want love". Peter isn't exactly an Oliver Twist though. he has a bit of darkness, likes getting into trouble and picking fights with younger kids. but one day his two year old sister who has been sick, dies. he sneaks out with his little brother to float her body down a river. he is very very broken after this. devastated a mess of tears and grief. in need of escape from his memories. so when he is adopted by a nice family he has no problem leaving his siblings behind. a lot of people must think gee this kid sounds awful, which he is but remember hes also a little boy who's had it tough this whole time and is clearly in survival mode, but he is a bit of a jerk. the family is quite nice but not doting. but they have an older son who is very badly bullying Peter. so due to Peter still being a kid despite hardships Peter gets his revenge by putting a massive spider in a box on the sons bedside table and glass on his rug. these stunts get him scolded and sent back after just four months. so having what he thought was his new world ripped away from him, hes a lot more morose and solemn. he starts to quickly learn to keep his head down and take anything that comes his way and just try to keep his mouth shut and survive. he also loses his love for rocketships and his childlike lens. after another five months the three boys get an opportunity to work for a very wealthy family in New York. so the three boys are put on a boat. but they assume that they are being adopted as kids not servants. oops. so they're quite taken of guard when they have to sleep in a cellar. the man has a son who enjoys shooting and a daughter who likes painting. the daughter is twelve and the son is fifteen. the son loves pushing them all around but he quickly takes Tommy under his wing and they become close friends and they both poke fun at Peter and Johnny. Peter eventually becomes a very angry young man. keeping copious amounts of rage inside of his mind. Peter does his work well but still suffers horrific physical abuse from both the brother, the father, visitors and older workers like butlers. when he turns ten he falls in love with the sister. constantly trying to show off in a silly little kid way. she humours humbug is uninterested. a few years go by and now he is twelve and she is fifteen. she agrees to be his girlfriend and he is so happy because after years of facing the wrath of her brother for talking to her hes finally with her. but she's very controlling, manipulative, and mentally abusive. she is horrible to him and convinces him to do all kinds of things. eventually one day it escalates to psychotic physical abuse such as getting hit in the face with a hot iron. and he starts doing it back too, not as severe but still violent and soulless. this goes on until hes 13. his little brother stops working due to injuries inflicted by the rich brother. by now tom is 17 and has matured and is taking care of Johnny and Petey. Johnny eventually has his body give up and he dies, aged 8, and is replaced by another little boy called toby aged 6. this makes Peter really realise he needs to get out of there and he organises a sort of mini revolution amongst the child labourers. long story short they all escape and Peter is free. Tommy isn't part of this and stays at the house :). he gets taken in by an older boy (about 19) who takes him in and actually is affectionate. this boys name is Franky. Franky teaches him a lot of things and picks him up off the ground and cheers him up. but one day Franky takes his own life. Peter has lost all he had. he gets taken in by a nice woman and her husband who are his parents for another year. now 14 hes happily calling them mother and father and often papa. they are quite a bit older and always wanted children, and really dote on him. eventually the man dies of old age and Peter is very upset. the mother stops responding to Peter and completely ignores him. one day when Peter is persistent in trying to talk to her she spins around and smacks him across the face. she crumples and tries to reach out to him but he runs out the house, ptsd. when he returns she's gone. and the house is bare. he returns to the big house and goes through like 10 more months of horrific labour and physical torture. he is even coerced into getting back into that relationship. one day hes watering and clipping plants when toby drops some shears. they don't break they're totally fine and the brother raises his hand and from pure instinct Peter runs over and shouts "NOOO!" and blocks him. then he brings toby over to where he was working and gives him another job. the brother says "you'll pay for that!" and Peter looks at the clock. when the second hand is between seconds time slows down and there's a rendition of Space Oddity indicating to the audience that he knows he is about to die because of the last verse. when he comes out of that the hand finishes the second and the brother pulls out a gun. Peter turns his body and head starts to scream and is shot in the head and falls. the body is left onstage in silence in a spotlight for 2 minutes. that's it. then we see that Tommy (18) is very pissed because he finally sees how evil his best friend is. last scene is a flashback to little Peter and Johnny singing when I grow up. miss honeys verse is sang by older Peter (as a sort of a spirit) and the little section of naughty is sang by Peter when hes about to play the prank (because that's what he sang in the original scene) from all those years ago and older Peter just sings miss honeys verse and watches the mistake that started it all.
