"True, but that should have been enough," Greg commented.

Susan arched her brow at him. "Why?" she asked.

"Excuse me?"

"We've had difficulty recognizing the physical details in each other aside from our faces from any our past lives. Why should this be any different?" Susan asked.

Greg cocked his head at her. "I see what you mean. Perhaps this is one of those things which is new in every life?"

"Maybe. I'm not certain it is an experience that carries over from life to life, so maybe," Susan said. "It's normal to be curious, Greg. And I certainly don't mind."

"Breastfeeding is normal. But is it normal for a husband to be curious about that?" Greg wondered aloud.

"Why wouldn't it be?" Susan asked.

Greg arched at brow at his wife "We have been married for two years. We are very intimately acquainted with each other physically."

"Yes, but everything you've ever known about my breasts has changed in the past few days," Susan told him.

"Everything?" Greg asked.

"They feel different on the inside and out, they respond different. They leak now. They never did that before in our marriage," Susan listed some of the more noticeable of the changes.

"Can I touch you? At home I mean, when you aren't nursing Melody," he asked.

"Yes," Susan said. "Though you might want to be careful about that. I don't want to be causing you a problem just now."

Greg arched his brow. "Could you?"

"I don't know, could I? Our period of abstinence is going to be much longer this time," she cautioned.

"I see what you mean. Well, I am not twenty. My purpose is to learn about you, not to initiate sex, so maybe," he told her.

Susan nodded, glancing up and over to the nurses station with the open door and she began to realize their voices had probably been carrying farther than they'd intended them to.

"Let's talk about this at home, okay?" she suggested quietly as she switched sides with Melody.
Greg followed her gaze then nodded. "Sorry," he said in a tone barely above a whisper. "Sometimes I feel we are alone in here. I forgot the acoustics are designed to carry the sound from the nursery to the office to allow the nursing staff to more closely monitor the babies."

Susan met his eyes and smiled, still watching the fascination in his eyes. She could see the opportunity for a series of fascinating experiences ahead of them once they brought Melody home.

The down side of having two cars at the hospital was that at the end of the evening, each of them had to drive home alone. Both Greg and Susan arrived at the house shortly after nine, early enough to tuck Zackary in, but once again Jessie was already sleeping.

"I love you, Jess," Susan whispered as she kissed the sleeping girl goodnight.

"I love you too, Mama," Jessie whispered in her sleep, turning over as she did, never even opening her eyes.

Downstairs, Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy were waiting for them in the family room.

"How was Melody tonight?" Mrs. Abernathy asked.

"Good," Susan said. "Her IVs are out, her umbilical cord is mostly gone, and the cardiac monitors aren't necessary anymore, so they're gone too. They're still monitoring her carefully, but she looks better than she has before."
