someone worth trusting

the new dawn and dusk (1)

note: before I even start this book, Ocean is like jack but a little older. She's basically a teenager at this point in the series so thats why im including her in this, because she's old enough for romance.

OCEAN

Asteroid was back. It was a little refreshing not having Asteroid there. Ocean didn't want to be this distrusting, but she couldn't help herself. She couldn't help but feel uncomfortable any time she saw Asteroid and she hated it. Ocean was in the pizzaplex right now. Asteroid wasn't working as she had just woken up from being dead so she was at the house. Ocean just wanted to be anywhere Asteroid wasn't. She had outgrown the daycare and it was no longer fun, so she was looking around some of the back rooms of the pizzaplex. The places kids weren't allowed.

She was just opening any random doors that didn't seem dangerous, Ocean hadn't found anything fun yet. The most exciting thing she found was Dusk's office, which Dusk wasn't in because they were even more short staffed after all of this stuff with Space and Titan. Ocean almost had to not be here today too, and if she was being honest, everything hurt. But she would do anything just to not be in that house with Asteroid.

When her dad had found her, she wasn't doing too hot. Ocean had passed out from the blunt force of Space literally throwing her around like a dog's toy. She would have to get fixed at some point, but if she could help it, she wouldn't get fixed by Comet. Ocean guessed nothing serious was wrong with her anyways due to the fact she could still function. Ocean had a high pain tolerance, but not nearly as high to be walking if anything was broken.

Ocean opened the next door boredly, walking in. The room had an odd yellow tint to it's lighting as she turned the lights on. There was nothing interesting so far, just a bunch of shelves. Ocean walked further into the storage as she couldn't see what was past all of these shelves. There was just a bunch of junk on them, covering her sight to the back of the room. As she got closer to the back, there were two big boxes. Ocean was curious about those boxes, she hadn't seen anything like them in any of the rooms.

As she reached the box, she tapped it. There was definitely something inside, something big and heavy. Ocean tried grabbing the box but it was too heavy. Strangely heavy. Ocean checked for any labels, not trusting the box enough to open it. She retracted her daggers, cautious as she opened the first box. Ocean tried peeking into it, but the box was a little taller than her. She cut the front of the box so that she could see and take out whatever was in there. When she finished cutting the neat rectangle in the front, she gasped.

It was an animatronic.

There was an animatronic in this box. Ocean glanced at the other box. She had to check if this was what she thought it was. Ocean cut the other box open, not being as careful with it. When the rectangle of cardboard fell open, it was the same thing. Another animatronic. It looked like a Dawn and a Dusk model to her understanding, but a bit shorter. Around the same height as her, though they were about an inch taller. Ocean didn't turn them on. She didn't let her curiosity get the best of her, they could be dangerous. They were definitely back there for a reason. She decided to call Comet.

Ocean opened her messaging software and called him. He answered fairly late for being not that busy, probably with his boyfriend that he said wasn't his boyfriend. Ocean could see right past him, she knew she had two dads and Ginger did too. "Hello?" Comet said into the call. "Hi, I think I found something I shouldn't have..." Ocean said, trailing off. "What is it?" Comet asked. "Animatronics. Two of them." Ocean said in response. "Oh sh- crap, I'm on my way, I can text Dusk and Dawn about it for you." Comet said, clearly trying not to curse. Ocean already knew all the words anyways and used them in her own mind.

"Okay, bye dad." Ocean said, hanging up before he could say bye back.

When Comet got there, Apollo and Dusk were with him. "They look brand new." Dusk said as she walked in. "These are expensive." Comet said. "I was looking at them to see if I could make something similar since we're short on daycare attendants." Comet said. "How much do they go for?" Dusk asked. "Around 90K." Comet said in response. Dusk didn't respond to that, she was probably just as shocked as Ocean.

"What were you doing back here?" Apollo asked. Ocean just shrugged. She was happy sometimes that other people still saw her as a kid, because she could get away with just the shrug and not have to explain anything. "We should probably power them on... See if they work." Comet said. Dusk grunted, probably not liking that idea. "You know how I feel about Fazbear's animatronics. We're lucky we're the way we are." Dusk said. "I know, but these are more... High end." Comet said. Dusk nodded. "Fine, we can power them on, see if they're half decent." Dusk said, though she didn't seem to like her idea.

Ocean stepped aside, letting Comet go in front of her, towards the animatronics. He took one fully out of the box, pressing some buttons behind their head. The animatronic's eyes opened immediately, their body jerking up. It was a quick change from being completely limp to full of energy. "Where am I? Where's Venus?" They asked immediately. "Venus?" Ocean asked. The animatronic looked at the box next to them and sighed. "Oh, there's Venus." The animatronic said. They seemed as if it was completely normal to just pop up somewhere new.

After Comet powered on the animatronic named Venus, he took a step back. "Do you both know how you got here?" Comet asked. Venus and the Dawn model looked at each other. "Probably the same as every time, new owners." Venus said. "How many times has this happened?" Dusk asked, crossing her arms. The Dawn model shrugged. "We lost count." They said. "What are your names?" Comet asked. "I'm Star, that's Venus." Star said. Ocean couldn't help but take in how new they looked. 

There was something else Ocean noticed, though. If they lost count, they must have been to a lot of owners, and that couldn't have been for a good reason.
