PROLOGUE
The Caribbean whispered secrets as Amelia Brooks stepped onto the deck of the Jackdaw, the warm breeze carrying the scent of salt and adventure. Her boots thudded softly against the planks, but beneath her calm exterior, her pulse raced. The ship creaked under her weight as she scanned the horizon. Sunlight danced across the water, glittering like shards of glass. A sense of foreboding lingered, making her grip the railing a little tighter. Somewhere in the distance, a gull cried, and the sound seemed almost like a warning.
From the upper deck, a figure emerged, leaning casually against the railing. James Kidd - or at least, a man who carried the weight of the sea and secrets in equal measure. His eyes met Amelia's, sharp and calculating, yet softened by a hint of curiosity and something unspoken. There was history here, unspoken truths, and a tension that made her heart skip a beat.
