The clashing of metal makes my skin prickle.

I breathe deep with my movements letting the blunt sword display my years of tedious training. Showcasing the infinite amount of hours I have sweat in this corner of the palace sparring only the best to become one of the best.

I will be...

A hard plant of a boot on my chest sends me sprawling across the damp grass. I glare up at the armored man trying to catch my breath that he literally kicked out of me.

"What the hell are you thinking about?" He jams the large sword into the earth while lifting off his helmet. "You have to leave tomorrow to ride next to your brothers and here you sit on your ass."

"You'll be there too." I groan as I stand back up and grip my sword. "You can take a hit or two for me."

His blues sparkle even in the dreary weather. "You know you would miss me if I lost my head..."

I thank God for my helmet hiding my blushing face. "I would kick it far away from me and then ride my horse over it."

"Sure Prince. Sure." He smiles wide and walks over to the horses water trough.

"Sir Satoru. Mind your tongue." I snip at him while following at a distance.

"Mind my tongue?" He sets the helmet gently on a hay bale. "Where would you like me to mind it to? Hmm?"

I toss the sword down and yank my own helmet off knowing my blushed cheeks are now red with anger. He grins at me before dunking his head into the murky liquid. A horse whinnies and trots away. I don't think twice before gripping onto his white hair and holding him under.

He's calm at first letting small bubbles surface, but then his hand comes up and finds mine. He grips on tight and stomps on my boot.

Idiot.

His fingers wander from my hands that are tangled in his hair, up my arms, to my neck, where he gently pats my face.

I laugh until I feel the punch that follows.

I fall back watching Satoru whip his head from the tank. His white hair now plasters his face as blues darken and he unsheathes his sword.

I hold up my hands. "Sir Satoru..."

"Don't Sir Satoru me!" He spats out while kicking my foot. He raises his sword and rest it on my chest plate. "I swear to the gods I would cut your heart out if I could..."

"What is holding you back?" I grab the steel and glance quickly around us before settling my lips on the blade.

I watch his shoulders relax and his blues swirl watching me. I let go so he can place it away. His large hand extends for mine. I allow him to touch me and pull me back onto my feet. Our hands linger in the others.

"Stay back." Satoru whispers. "Say you are sick. Say I hurt you training. Anything Prince."

I let my hand fall from his. "It's my duty. My time to fight. I may not be to your level yet, but I will get there Sir Satoru."

"With my help."

"With your help."

Rain starts pelting us.

We grab our equipment and hurry into the armory. Rusting tools are of no use to the kingdom. Anything even with the slightest defect is tossed to the side. Destroyed.
Perfection is not just sought after.
It is demanded.
