If there was one person Jake Sim couldn't stand, it was Lee Heeseung.

And if there was one person Heeseung avoided at all costs, it was Jake.

It started in sophomore year at Riverfield High. Same classes. Same grades. Same rank.

First and second place switched between them like a curse.

Jake was loud confidence — captain of the soccer team, teacher's favorite, effortlessly charming.

Heeseung was quiet brilliance — top of the music club, straight A's, calm but intimidating.

They never spoke.

Until the teacher made the worst decision possible.

"Jake, you'll be sitting next to Heeseung for the rest of the semester."

Silence.

Jake leaned back in his chair. "You've got to be kidding."

Heeseung didn't even look at him. "Just don't distract me."

Jake scoffed. "Distract you? From what? Brooding?"

That was the first time Heeseung looked at him.

And if looks could kill, Jake would've dropped dead between algebra and lunch.
