Alex and his brothers; Simon and Eddy; went out to their grandfather's house in the countryside on a cool autumn day. They were supposed to watch over the place while he was hospitalized for an accident. The two looked upon the old country house that was on the plot of land and the gravel driveway which led up to it. And they saw the barn that was nearby as well as a cornfield and a maoi head statue. The sun was setting when the three arrived.

"Wow, talk about a dreary place." Simon asked.

"It's an old house, what do you expect?" Alex rebuked. "Come on, let's get inside and check the place out."

As they entered the house, they spotted a note on the dining room table explaining the general chores that needed to be done. But the last statement grabbed Alex's attention.

"Do not enter the cornfield after sundown." Eddy read.

"Why is that there?" Alex asked.

"That just sounds more like common sense." Simon added.

"Pfft, it's nothing to worry about." Eddy dismissed the last one.

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

"I'm sure it's just a normal cornfield, nothing wrong with it."

"I don't think it's a good idea." Eddy headed out the door and towards the cornfield. The other two followed him out. "Hey, where are you going?"

"I'm going to prove there is nothing scary about it." Alex turned and saw that the sun had fallen over the horizon.

"So, what are you going to do?" Simon asked.

"I'm going to take thirty paces into the cornfield. Turn around and take thirty paces back." Eddy commented.

"You shouldn't..." Alex commented.

"Too late." Simon added.

"One." Eddy stated, stepping into the cornfield taking a step. "Two. Three. Four..." He had disappeared into the cornfield.

"This is bad." Alex stated.

"Okay, chill out." Simon explained. "We will just wait for him to come out. He'll come out." They waited but there was no sign of Eddy. "Any moment now." There was still no sign. "What is he waiting for? He should come out right about now." There remained to be no signs of their brother.

"Something must really be wrong." Alex commented. "There needs to be something in the house that can help."

The duo had entered the house once again. They searched through the structure for some clues that could help with the situation at hand. When they entered the bedroom, Alex noticed a black notebook on the bedside drawer. As soon as he lifted it, a key had fallen out.

"Wait, what's that?" Alex asked. "A key?"

"Of course, it's a key." Simon answered.

"I know that. But what does it go to?" There was a pause. "Do you think it leads to that one room?"

"That one room?"

"The room that Grandpa always kept locked when we were present."

"Maybe, maybe not. Who knows."

"We need to check it out." He dropped the notebook and headed downstairs. He found the spruce wood door in the house. It was bizarre given the fact that it was the only part of the house that was made from spruce.
