Monster High never truly slept.

Even when the last bell rang and the halls emptied of laughter and chaos, the school continued breathing in its own peculiar rhythm. Portraits whispered to each other across stone walls. Chandeliers swayed without wind. Lockers creaked open and closed as if remembering secrets.
Night was when the school felt most alive. And tonight, the night belonged to them.

she was the girl that belonged to the stars. he was the boy who belonged to the night. together they shared a bond no one could break no matter how hard they tried.

The rooftop doors opened with a quiet groan of ancient hinges. Amethyst stepped into the cool night air, her movements slow and graceful, as if she feared disturbing the silence wrapped around the world. Her long midnight hair drifted behind her, fading into soft violet at the ends, shimmering faintly under the moon's pale glow. She paused at the edge of the rooftop. Above her stretched an endless ocean of stars. They pulsed gently — alive, aware, familiar. She always felt their presence. Always heard their distant whispers. Tonight their voices were calm, like a quiet lullaby echoing across the universe. Her luminous violet eyes softened. "This is where I can breathe," she murmured. The air around her shimmered with faint cosmic energy. Tiny specks of starlight formed around her fingertips, drifting like glowing dust before fading into nothing.

For a moment, she stood alone.
Then the darkness behind her shifted.

Shadows gathered near the rooftop entrance, thickening unnaturally. They folded inward, condensing into form — tall, still, inevitable. Shadow emerged from the darkness as though reality itself had allowed him to exist.
He made no sound.
Cast no reflection.
Disturbed nothing.
His presence was not simply seen — it was felt, like the quiet weight of nightfall.
Silver eyes found her immediately.
"You wished to see the stars."
His voice was low and calm, carrying a strange depth — like distant thunder beneath endless sky.
Amethyst did not startle. She never did. She simply turned and smiled.
"They're clearer tonight." He moved beside her, darkness trailing at his feet like living ink. Where she glowed softly with cosmic light, he absorbed everything — a perfect balance of existence. They stood shoulder to shoulder.
Above them, the universe stretched endlessly.

Neither spoke for a long time.
They never needed to.
Their silence was not emptiness — it was understanding.

Shadow watched the horizon, scanning the distance with quiet vigilance. He had done so every night since they met, guarding her against threats seen and unseen.
He did not sleep.
He did not tire.
He simply watched.

Amethyst glanced at him.
"You should rest sometimes."
"I do not require it." he said his voice deep like the dark sky
"That doesn't mean you shouldn't."
His gaze shifted toward her.
"I remain awake because the night is dangerous."
She tilted her head slightly.
"And?" she smiles playfully looking as the stars in hers eyes somehow glowed brighter
A pause.
His voice softened.
"And because you are in it."
Her heart fluttered faintly.

they always did this together. wondered in silence wondering just how far and how close they truly were to the world beyond any monsters comprehension
They left the rooftop together, descending through empty corridors lit by flickering blue lamps. Their footsteps made almost no sound against the polished floors.
The school seemed to react to their presence.
Lights dimmed when Shadow passed.
Dust shimmered when Amethyst moved.

They walked through the massive front doors and onto the quiet school grounds. Moonlight painted the grass silver, and the trees whispered softly in the wind.

Their hands brushed.
Then slowly intertwined.
His touch was cool, steady — grounding the restless cosmic energy that always danced beneath her skin.
Her presence softened the darkness around him.
