Cassandra Hopper adored the Wheeler house.
Mrs. Wheeler had to be one of the kindest people she had ever come across, always welcoming and had a general aura of warmth and trust. Cass spent a lot of time there due to her close friendship with Nancy and had some of her best memories in the girl's room. Mike, Nancy's brother was entertaining, albeit a pain in the ass, but she enjoyed having him around, he usually ran around with his group of friends making the house even more lively. And little Holy, she was absolutely adorable, soft cheeks and a bright smile. The house itself was large, pictures hanging off of the walls and kids running around at all times of the day, the T.V on while Ted Wheeler laid in his chair, sunlight shining through the curtains.
It felt like a home, something Cass loved.
Sitting on Nancy's bed the girls giggled and talked about everything and nothing. They both sat with their backs against her headboard, and legs curled under themselves. The door opening caused the girls to stop talking, seeing Dustin Henderson, one of Mike's best friends. He waves to the girls, a wide smile on his face, "Hey! There're two slices left if you guys want it." He opens the box, "Sausage and pepperoni," Cass smiles and looks at Nancy who shrugs.
"We'll take it, thanks." She says as Dustin practically runs in hand it to the girls, seemingly surprised they said yes.
"Well, um, I'll leave you guys alone," turning around he heads back to the door and yells, "Enjoy the pizza!"
The two girls laugh a bit before taking a slice each. "He's sweet," Cass says before taking a bite.
"Mhmm" Nancy hums, "I wish Mike was like that."
"Alright so back to you and Chris, what's going on there." She says with a teasing smile as Nancy blushes, "Oh you like him a lot," Cass's green eyes widen as she laughs.
"No, I don't!" Nancy denies, "I've just never really had a guy interested in me like this, much less one of the most popular guys in the school."
"Oh, please Nance, I'm sure there's tons of guys who like you but you're just so shy."
Nancy only rolls her eyes in response, "Not all of us have the confidence to just go up to any guy and ask them if they wanna make out-"
"That was one time!"
"Well, my point stands."
"Okay whatever, and it's not confidence, it's just, not caring." She shrugs before taking another bite of pizza.
"What about Steve?"
"What about him?"
"Come on, he's been basically following you around like a lost puppy this past week." Looking at her friend, her eyebrows raised.
"Yeah, it's kinda funny isn't it."
Nancy huffs out a laugh, "Well, are you gonna go out with him or..?"
"I mean, I don't think I'd say no if he asked me, I just hate Tommy and Carol."
"Ugh me too," Throwing her head back slightly. "I don't know why they're friends with them."
Cass just shakes her head and then they hear Karen yelling for the girls. "I guess that's my cue," she says before hopping off the bed, Nancy following suit as they head down the stairs.
"Have a good night, Cassandra," Karens smiles.
"You too Mrs. Wheeler," she says while putting her black converse back on, God they take forever to take on and off.
Once her shoes are finally on Nancy gives her a hug and she walks out to her car, the red Chevrolet Impala was a gift from her dad for her 16th birthday last month. She had never been more excited for anything before, because it wasn't just a car, it was freedom.
Starting the car, she heads back to the trailer, wondering if her dad was home or not, part of her hoped he wasn't so she could just go to her room and not have to see him.
Parking the car, she walked up to the door, a breeze sending goosebumps up her arms. Unlocking the door and stepping in she saw her father passed out on the couch, beer bottles on the console table, and even a bottle of pills. The whole trailer was a mess, but Cass ignored it, she was used to the mess her dad made, cleaning would be no use as it would be the same in two days or so. Heading into to her room she opened the window and sat on her bed, pulling out a pack of cigarettes from under her bed, and putting it between her lips, grabbing the lighter from her bedside table she let it and let the smoke fill her lungs, the action helping relieve her of the stress that floods through her every time she had to go home.
About halfway through her cigarette, she heard something outside, looking out of her window she didn't see anything aside from the woods that surrounded them. Figuring it was just the trees moving from the wind she put out her cigarette, through it outside and closed the window.
