The morning sun glinted off the sleek, obsidian finish of Jace Ashford's Koenigsegg as it screeched to a halt in front of the towering glass monolith of Valerius Enterprises.
At twenty-five, Jace was the undisputed king of the corporate world. To the media, he was the "Ice Prince"—a tall, devastatingly handsome enigma who broke competitors and hearts with the same cold efficiency. But as he stepped out of the car, adjusting his bespoke Italian suit, his mind wasn't on the billion-dollar merger he'd closed an hour ago. It was on the woman upstairs.
The Arrival
The lobby went silent. Security guards and high-level executives alike bowed their heads. Jace didn't spare them a glance. He moved with a predatory grace, his sharp jawline set in a mask of indifference that only shattered when he reached the private elevator.
On the 80th floor sat Serenity Valerius. If Jace was the king, she was the goddess. Radiant, brilliant, and untouchable, she was the woman every man in the city dreamed of—and the only one who had ever truly seen Jace Ashford bleed.
A Debt of the Heart
Years ago, before the private jets and the headlines, Jace had been a boy watching his world crumble. When his family's wealth vanished and his mother fell deathly ill, the vultures had circled. Powerful, predatory adults had offered him "help" in exchange for his dignity.
Serenity—even then, a force of nature—had stepped in. She had used her family's influence to shield him, paying for his mother's treatment and standing between him and the monsters who wanted to exploit him. She hadn't just saved his life; she had saved his soul.
In the Inner Sanctum
Jace pushed open the double doors of her office without knocking. Serenity was framed against the floor-to-ceiling windows, her silhouette elegant and commanding.
"You're late, Jace," she said, her voice like velvet. She didn't look up from her tablet, maintaining that cool, nonchalant CEO persona that made the rest of the world tremble.
Jace's cold exterior melted instantly. He crossed the room in three long strides, the possessive fire in his eyes ignited. "Traffic was a nightmare, baby," he murmured, his voice dropping into a low, intimate register.
Serenity chuckled, finally looking up. She offered him a smile that was supposedly 'polite,' but the warmth in her eyes betrayed her. "You and that nickname. People will think you're serious one of these days."
The Mark of Possession
Jace didn't laugh. To him, there was nothing playful about it. He leaned down, his large frame casting a shadow over her desk. Before she could protest, he tilted her chin up and pressed his lips to the curve of her neck.
It wasn't a soft greeting. It was deep, lingering, and fiercely possessive—a silent claim to the world that she belonged to him.
Serenity felt the familiar spark of heat but brushed it off with a light pat to his cheek. "Careful, Mr. Ashford. You'll wrinkle the suit. What brings the city's most eligible bachelor to my office on a Tuesday?"
Jace pulled back just enough to look into her eyes, his expression soft only for her. "I'm taking you to lunch. And I don't care what your schedule says. No one touches your time but me."
