My kingdom was once strong
I ruled over all that I could see
Once upon a time life was a dream
Nothing could ever go wrong
No bad things could happen
I was a good king
Kind and strong
Wise and caring
Then slowly the light started to fade
The shadows crept in like thief's in the night
Doubt ever so slight
Pride slowly bloating
Wisdom turning sour
These things didn't happen overnight
It took time like a cancer
Spreading silently till it was to late
When the rot was seen
The fall was already upon us
The once great king had turned
He had morphed
Into something else something new
Something darker and far worse
The deepest corners of his mind
Whispered strange things to him
A madness settled in
Nightmares began to roam the land
Devouring all their wake
Let them in the king said
They will save us from that's wrong
These nightmares came in the from
Of doubt pride and twisted knowledge
That the only way was to embrace them
Slowly at first all abandoned the king and his once shining kingdom untill only he remained to rule the ruins
A shattered dream gone wrong
A mighty and righteous man
Had fallen to his knees and lost himself
To the demons in his mind
And still they told him all was fine
He was the king after all
And as the king he ruled everything
But there was nothing left to rule
No kingdom no family no friends all were gone
Having fled his madness
Chased away by his demons that no one else could see
They took everything from him
But still yet they whispered
You don't need anyone your the king
What does a king need with friends or family when they have a whole kingdom
But all of it was lost to him
Once he surrendered to the demons all was lost
No one ever knew how he struggled and fought every day
How he layed awake at night begging for sleep for his mind to quite
But no relief did he ever find
The demons would never allow it
But chief among them was pride and it was sharp of mind and tongue
Convinceing the king that he needed was himself
Even as it stripped him of everything he ever had or wanted
It wasn't enough so still the whispers continued
He begged them to stop pleaded to be left alone
But never would they let him be
He was a king after all and everyone wants to be king
