A/N: I head canon Steve a Demiboy and Alex a Demigirl, so I did my best to try to alternate their pronouns :,)

"So let me get this straight." Alex started, squinting real hard at the Wandering Trader in front of her.
"You'll give me a spruce sapling. For five emeralds." Alex stared head-on at the Trader, who let out an affirmative hrrh.
"Even though," Alex continued slowly, "We are in the Taiga surrounded by them."
She gestured around them, the tall dark trees casting shadows upon the two.
The Wandering Trader only blinked. Then just held up the sapling to ask if Alex wanted to buy it.
They groaned, "You cannot expect me to—" her eye caught the sight of a fire coral block selling for three emeralds.
She whipped three of those green beauties out, "You have a deal."
---
Alex trekked out of the Taiga and to the mountains, the block of coral held proudly in their hands.
She paused at the sound of a bark, turning her head to see Jack, Steve's dog, racing down towards her, with Steve not too far behind.
"Jack! Steve! What'cha two doin' here?" Alex asked as she bent down to pet Jack.
"Looking for you actually." Steve replied, then looked curiously at the block in Alex's hands, "Why do you have coral?"
"Wandering Trader. I thought it would be a neat addition to our build." Alex explained, putting the coral away for now, "Why'd you come lookin' for me?"
"That," Steve donned on his elytra, "Is a surprise." They tossed an elytra to Alex, "You forgot yours at home."
"Whoops." Alex grinned sheepishly before putting it on themselves, accepting the rockets Steve gave her too.
She glanced down at Jack, "Aw, you're just gonna leave Jack here?"
"He'll be fine." Steve said as they leaned down to pet Jack, "He always manages to go wherever I go." He paused. " Somehow." They shrugged and stood right back up.
"Where we goin'?" Alex asked curiously.
"Just follow me." Steve said, before taking off into the air with a rocket.
Alex followed close behind, throwing a few more rockets until the two were finally side by side together.
Alex badly wanted to ask Steve again on where they were going, but she knew he wouldn't budge. The guy could be as silent as stone if he wanted to.
So she tried to look down, scanning the area below, trying to guess where on Earth they were going.
Alex took maybe about 30 seconds before they couldn't take it anymore, "Are we visiting a village?"
Steve looked at them surprised but shook his own head.
"An igloo?"
No response.
"A temple? A shipwreck? Did you find a trial chamber?"
Steve refused to budge.
Alex groaned. "You're killin' me with all this suspense."
They flew in steady silence for a few minutes (sans the rockets), until Steve suddenly spoke, "We're almost there."
Alex's eyes immediately snapped down to the ground, eager for what awaited.
They were flying across a flower field now, where sunflowers, tulips, and peonies alike dotted the green field for miles on end.
Alex appreciated a patch of blue orchids as they flew, until Steve gently nudged her side.
She glanced at him questioningly, they just pointed down in response.
Alex looked down, their eyes back on the ground once more to be met with a large patch of roses, all carefully planted into rings of hearts.
Alex's breath caught in her throat for a moment before it turned into a laugh, "Oh!" She turned her head to Steve, who beamed right at them.
The couple circled around, Alex admiring the rows upon rows of flowers that Steve painstakingly planted with perfect precision.
The two descended right down the middle, which had a red carpet in the shape of a heart.
"Aww." Alex looked around admiringly, "How long did this take you?"
"A few sleepless nights." Steve sighed, yet they retained a little half-smile.
He took out a beehive, placing it at a small empty patch of grass untouched by the roses, and three bees popped out promptly, immediately busying themselves with the rings of roses around.
A sharp bark was heard as Jack trotted faithfully next to Steve, who petted Jack and ordered him to sit, "See? He always comes."
"How does he do it?" Alex said amused as she too petted Jack, who seemed to puff up his chest in pride.
Steve could only shrug, before they pulled out more beehives and spare roses, tossing half of each to Alex, "I know how much you like bees, so I figured you'd want these."
Alex beamed, "You know me so well."
The two began to place the beehives in the patches of grass in between the roses, watching the bees pop out and gather pollen. Soon, the place was bustling with bees, and Alex couldn't have been more happy than they were now.
As they sprinted along the roses, roses held high in her hand, her eyes landed on Steve, who was feeding some flowers to a baby bee.
Alex wasn't quite sure when the two had got to where they were now. It seemed like they were just friends for their whole lives, until it somehow blossomed into something... more.
Alex didn't really know what it was, and they were sure Steve didn't know either. Everything had just changed one day when they were exploring an igloo together.
But honestly, Alex wasn't disturbed. It felt strange, at first, when every time they saw Steve an unidentifiable feeling would wash over her shoulders and down to her legs—it was a small constant among the feelings of joy and excitement whenever they were with him. But eventually, Alex made their peace with it.
This was Steve. Alex knew Steve. Regardless of that weird feeling or not, the two would stick together until the end of times. That was something she knew wasn't weird. Their presence was a constant she was confident to rely on, a guy she knew had her back.
So yeah, Alex wasn't afraid of what they had come. Whatever they were, they were both content with it. There was no words needed to be said, no discomforts or uncertainties about what they were and what the future held.
Standing in the field of roses with Steve as the bees buzzed by, Alex felt that feeling again. It was a subtle, yet unmoving presence, a mysterious force that just could not be named. It was what made them to look forward to seeing Steve everyday, to go on some new adventure with them.
Maybe there was a name for this feeling. Maybe there wasn't.
But as of now, Alex didn't need a name for it. After all, they had gone this far without ever feeling the need or want to do so.
That feeling was just apart of what the two always were.
Alex and Steve.

A/N: This one shot isn't the reason why I call my version of Alex and Steve RoseBuddies (in spite of the presence of roses here lol), but I'll prolly write that one in the future c:
