The sun is high in the sky, the birds are chirping, and in a small village on the edge of the Echeshian Empire, a house can be seen with a very lively atmosphere. Inside of the house, there is a boy entering his teen, both of his parents, and their cat. The mother is cooking, the dad sharpening his sword, and the boy playing with the cat.
“Kaei! Come here and help!” The mother said.
The boy, now known as Kaei, comes over to the kitchen and looks at his mother.
“What is it, mom? Do you need me to get something?” Kaei asked curiously.
“Yes, I do. Can you hunt some chickens or rabbits for me? You can take the sword with you.” His mother requested.
Kaei hesitated for a moment, he hasn’t hunted anything in a few weeks. But he didn't want to disappoint his mother so he accepted her request.
“Sure, I’ll go get some, mom.” He answered.
His mother smiled and pointed him to the sword. He walks over and takes the sword, inspecting it, he finds it to be in a good shape, but dirty. He sheaths it and hangs the sword on his back while he proceeds to leave the house and enter the forest near his village.
A couple of hours later
Kaei returned home with a plentiful haul: several chickens, rabbits, and even a feathered snake known for its delicious flavor. “Thank you so much, Kaei,” his mother said. “No problem, Mom. If you need more, just let me know,” Kaei replied. That evening, they had a warm and enjoyable dinner.
Days later
Kaei wakes up from the sounds of screams. He's confused by what's happening, his mother and father weren't home so he got up. But before he left, his mother and father rushed into the house.
“Kaei! Hide!!”
His father commanded him, Kaei was confused by what's going on.
“But, why?!”
His mother and father quickly hugged him, as if it would be their last hug.
“We're sorry, son.”
At the same moment his mother said those words, a group of men in green clothes ran in with swords in their hands. They looked at his parents and slashed them across their back. To Kaei, it seemed like a heartless murder, but soon he will find out what it actually is.
As both of his parents' bodies collapsed onto him, he closed his eyes, hoping for all of this to be a dream. He heard those men leave his house and he opened his eyes, what met them was the faces of both his parents. Their eyes closed, their mouths smiling. Kaei quickly realizes what had happened, he starts shaking their bodies with the hope of them still being alive. He started to cry, but silently. He doesn't know if those green clothed men are still around or not.
Two hours later
As the daylight starts to disappear, and the sounds of killings stop, Kaei slowly pushes the bodies of his parents aside gently. He got up and grabbed his father's sword, and left the house. He was searching for any survivors, anyone, even those people that had murdered his village. But, he didn't find anyone. As he was leaving the outskirts of his village, he took one last look at his house, and promised to take revenge on the people that did this.
Kaei kept walking and walking, even though he was dirty and tired. No one else had survived from the attack in his village, and all along the road, he saw bodies, destroyed horse carriages, and even some of the dead bodies of the attackers. He stopped for a bit, sitting under a tree on the roadside until he heard a couple of people coming from the direction of his village. He hid quickly to make sure no one would see him.
