The North Star was supposed to shine brightly above, far in the sky. But if one day you have the chance to be closer to it, would you grab it?
The Korean entertainment industry could be many things.
The Promised Land for those who had talents and worked hard.
Or The Black Hole that could consume your entire soul if you were not careful.
He was not someone who started young or as an idol.
He wanted to become a professional actor, intentionally went to Konkuk University and learnt Film Arts, then debuted in 2017 when he was already 23.
Some people said it was a late start.
But for him and his family, it was the right timing.
He had no illusion of wanting to act because he craved fame or money. He genuinely prepared for it, and treated it as a respectable profession that he worked hard for, sharpened his skills for, and when the time was right, stayed away to rest from.
Because he started his career as an adult, he was able to differentiate the good side and the dark side, and consciously stayed in the correct lane he believed in.
The first two years of his career consisted of auditioning and getting small roles, then Love Alarm happened. He became a Netflix sensation in such a short time. He got so many offers for advertisements and series.
However, he chose Sweet Home instead of the so many romance scripts offered to him, because Sweet Home was different from Love Alarm, and it was challenging.
As Love Alarm and Sweet Home got sequels, he moved around the schedule and chose Navillera, another risky challenge that made him have to learn ballet.
If people hadn't known him before, he got mainstream popularity through Nevertheless, where he portrayed the seductive and morally gray Park Jaeon. He was propelled into stardom he never imagined before, and with that came the privileges and burdens.
He had more fans, more offers and his pay raised, but with it, the shippers of him and Han Sohee emerged.
Nevertheless was designed to look beautiful, seductive and intense.
But that was it. A drama. Work. Nothing more.
Han Sohee was an extremely beautiful woman. They were friends. He would do a lot for her. He would help her if she needed it. He would wish her a happy birthday if he happened to remember it. Or if she had negative news, he would text her just to check whether she was alright.
He was grateful to her and to Nevertheless. It was a big part of his career and fame.
And as much as he considered Han Sohee a friend, she also considered him a friend, the kind that would text him a "good luck on your new series," kind of friend.
But that was it. Really and truly. The intensity shippers saw onscreen were the chemistry of Yoo Nabi and Park Jaeon. What Han Sohee and Song Kang had was only friendship.
Therefore, when the noise of the expectations became too loud and had the possibility of ruining their career prospects, both their agencies denied the relationship ever existed in the first place.
