Alaric Knight was a young scrawny looking seventeen year old boy. He wore a loose black tunic with strings attached holding little beads on each end. On his side was a brown leather belt, with a little brown bag. His pants were a bronze color, washed out. The boy had bright blue eyes, sharp features and shaggy blonde hair. He wasn't ugly. In fact, he was considered handsome to most but he wasn't the most popular among his town. The most popular of the town or highly liked was a boy named Jace Haven. A less scrawny more buffed looking boy. He was tall. Had tan skin, and green eyes. Shorter brown hair that curled in certain places. He wore black boots everywhere, pairing them with dark brown pants. As well as a dark blue tunic with a surcoat on top. Carrying a long dagger on his side, it shined in the sun if it was at the right angle. Jace and Alaric were friends. Good friends, in fact they practically were like brothers. You see, Jace came from a wealthy family, his family was notable in the town and country. Alaric came from a more average family, but he was the only child of his family. Until one day, Jace's family went under attack when he was just a kid. By dark dragons, the most powerful dragons to ever exist. They'd only ever come out to attack someone if there was a reason to. Unfortunately for Jace, his father made a deal with the king of dark dragons. Corbin, meaning raven, dark raven to be specific is what this dragon was. Corbin had dark black scales with hints of ruby red, sharp claws and long sharper teeth. His tail had ruby gems along it, hidden between each scale. Corbin was a big dragon, he was terrifying. His eyes glowed a dark red in the night whilst in the sun they were black. He could breathe dark matter and fire at the same time, he truly was powerful. Some suspect that Corbin was once a human, or a king long ago turned into a beast. Others believe he came down from the heavens by God to watch over the earth, but to be disappointed by the violence caused by human kind that he caused more chaos as a punishment. But who's to say? That's just story book telling, everyone believes their own story.
Jace's father Damian Haven, made a deal with Corbin. This deal was for immortality. He wanted to be immortal, perhaps a vampire? No, he just wanted to immortality part. He wanted to become a ruler, and rule out every and any land out there. The man was corrupt! He had no sense of morality, it had become lost over the years of gambling away with townsman, and banished witches. And messing with dark matter. Something a normal man shouldn't mess with. Damian had three simple rules to follow, one he would gather sheds of a banished witch's hair, two, collect blood from a newborn. It had to be a newborn, it was fresh blood after all. And lastly, three, lay with spirit. Meaning to dance with a beautiful spirit named Cassiopeia. A mythical star being, from decades ago. She was a beautiful being, she wasn't human nor could reproduce like one. In fact, she was a spirit. You could say she was a magical orb, but she wasn't. Cassiopeia was a queen, a queen in her time, a legend. If you came to the hands of her, she'd grant you a wish. It was nearly impossible to find her though, she became a dead legend. Of course, Damian could find this spirit. And he did. He found her by the blue lagoon hidden beneath the crystal water. His words chanted, "Oh, dear, my dear Cassiopeia. Come to me, my queen. I plead for you, I dream of you. Come to me Cassiopeia." And so she appeared. The chant did in fact work to his surprise. She granted him his wish, hesitantly she could sense is awfulness from the way his heart beaded and his gazing eyes.
Damian gained what he needed, sheds of an old woman's hair, a tiny glass bottle of newborn blood and to have laid with the spirit Cassiopeia.
He waited for Corbin's return. One night, the night. Sitting on a wooden bench outside his house, in the freezing cold. It was pitch dark, but a shadow, dark, but visible could be seen. A gruff came from this dark shadow, and glistening ruby red eyes. With a low growl, it questioned the man. Asking if he had his things gathered for him, and if he did what the shadow told him to do. Damian nodded his head eagerly and said with pride all the things he did. The shadow came into clear view, Corbin gave Damian a hard glance. His eyes were full of disgust. Corbin thought his lesson would work, which was to never take advantage of someone for your benefit. Which the man in fact did do. He took advantage of that old witch, stealing something dear to her. He took that poor baby's blood, what if the child was sickly and dying? Did he think of that? No. He didn't. He didn't think of anyone but himself, he didn't once think of the damage he could be doing by these three simple tasks. And what about Cassiopeia? How did he take from her? When she was the one who gave him what he desired. What he deserved. You shouldn't sleep with spirits, even if they grant you the wish. Everyone knows this. But he did it anyways. Damian was a selfish man, by doing these things he put his family in danger. Corbin couldn't just walk away from this. So he told the man, to get his family out and away or else they'd go down with him. The man was angry. He was livid, he had done all of that for nothing! To not become immortal with eternal power. He was so angry that he didn't think about Corbin's words of getting his family away from here. With a simple blow of fire, the house was burned. It was on fire! Damian still sitting on his bench, laughing at the beast, thinking he had gained immortality. That he couldn't die, ignoring the screams of his dear wife. "Damian! D..Damian!!" She cried out, but she was ignored. Their son, Jace made it out coughing black and red, some red from blood in his throat. Tears forming in his eyes, begging his father to do something. As he begged, his father became more hysterical than before "We will do great things, my son. Well-" Corbin cut him off by slicing his throat by a swift cut of his thumb, blood poured gashing everywhere, his body fell to the ground in a splash. His blood had turned black. This left Jace traumatized, he was terrified. Before Corbin went off, he told the boy what he told his father. And to never follow his father's footsteps or else he'd accept the same fate.
Due to Jace's family being murdered, and leaving him alone. Alaric's family took him in, and raised him with their son. Everyone knew about Jace and his story. Regardless of him being taken in by a new family and friend, he was the talk. But the town would only talk about his bravery and how he survived Corbin the dark dragon. He was in fact a legend. That's how he became so popular and notable. Alaric was never jealous of his friend, he felt pity for him. I mean sometimes it sucked when Jace was getting the girls and he wasn't. Jace was out almost every night with girls and guys. Gathering around for parties, and doing typical teenage boy things. Although Alaric wasn't jealous, sometimes he felt a bit in his shadow. But it didn't bother him much, not getting girls didn't bother him as much as it used to because he had her. Marielle Darcy. She had dark brownish red hair, with green to blue eyes. A young girl, from the Darcy family. Known for having warlocks, and witches in their family. They had magic in their name. Marielle had witch magic crafted in her blood. She in fact was a witch. Being a witch wasn't forbidden, just heavily frowned upon. Due to the towns history with witches and sorcery, it all led to dark enchantment. So often the Darcy family would get mean looks, some of the town people would go to them for medical needs, some would hold their head high and not even glance at them. Marielle wasn't bad, she used her magic for good only. Actually, she rarely used it. Marielle and Alaric had been good friends since they were thirteen, not as long as him and Jace though. Jace was skeptical about her when they first met, but he grew to love her like a sister. Alaric really did love Marielle. He loved the way she talked, how she held herself, and how she'd do anything to help those in need. He really did feel her. And was mesmerized by her. The boy was smitten! Marielle had a soft spot for Alaric, she was always close with him but as they grew older her heart grew more and more for him.
One day, on a cold night. Alaric, and Marielle snuck out to meet each other in the woods. Not too far off from the town, but a little away where no one could see them. Marielle waited against a willow tree. Wearing a light blue gown with long cuffed sleeves. She put a flower in hair and put it in the back, so it would look nice. She waited for Alaric. He came, walking to her with a smile on his face. In his hand was a locket. It was a heart locket, he had spent a month crafting it to perfection. Marielle hugged him so tightly that she accidentally made them fall to the ground. They laughed and sat right up, next to one another. Alaric put the locket around Marielle's neck, it placed gently above her chest. The moonlight that night was beautiful. It gleamed down on them. Although they were alone, and could do anything they pleased or wanted. They chose to sit there, just together. It was sweet, and genuine. She was the only girl Alaric could ever love. The only girl that made him feel a certain way. And he was the only one to never make Marielle cry, and to always be by her side. It felt like something straight from a romance story. Sitting there, Marielle made a movement with her hands and conjured a spell. "Close your eyes." She said to Alaric. She put her hands together in an oval shape, and suddenly her hands glowed. "Alright, open your eyes." Alaric opened his eyes and saw the golden glows coming from her hands. She carefully unfolded her hands and a beautiful golden dove came out and spin around in circles. It was beautiful, one of the most beautiful things Alaric saw, besides Marielle. The dove flew up into the night, and left a light to gold all around. The two lovebirds were glistening in gold and moonlight, Alaric caressed Marielle's right cheek in one hand, while using the other to bring her in closer. He kissed her. He kissed her like he's never kissed someone before! He was in love, he wanted her and only her.
