It was the first day back at school, and I was totally wiped out from barely sleeping. Instead of hopping on the bus, I figured I'd walk home to sneak in a smoke at my usual spot before dealing with the chaos at home.

I had my music cranked up in my headphones, zoning out, when I caught sight of my ex's group hanging around. Man, I hated Gio with everything in me, and his stupid friends weren't any better. I still don't get why I ever dated him. He was three years older, and we argued nonstop. He'd always mess up, but somehow I'd end up taking the blame.

I tried to just keep walking and ignore them, but then one of those idiots yelled, "You whore!"

I pulled off my headphones and spun around. It was Ashota, the ultimate player. I was legit shocked— he was calling me a whore? The guy was the biggest manwhore around.

"How can you, of all people, call me that?" I yelled back, mocking him. "If it was from someone else, maybe I'd understand. But you?"

He shut up quick, but then Iosebi jumped in. "Shut up, little bitch," he said.

I was surprised to even hear him speak—I hadn't heard his voice since that time his mom slapped him right in front of the whole Savolketi.

I'd just gotten to my smoke spot and lit up when a familiar voice cut through. "Hey."

I turned, and there was my best friend, Anna. "Girl, what are you doing here?" I screamed, totally shocked. She was supposed to be in the US.

"Girl, I got kicked out of the exchange program," she said.

I wasn't surprised at all,she always pulled dumb stunts.

"So, what brings you out here?" she asked.

"I was heading home and wanted a quick smoke first."

"Oh, I have so much to tell you, girl," she said, diving into some wild story about her weird boyfriend.

We were deep in it when suddenly a bunch of guys showed up behind us. It was Gio's gang. What the hell were they doing here this time of day? Don't they have anything better to do, like clubs or something?

Anna stopped talking mid-sentence and glanced over. When she looked back at me, her eyes screamed, "Let's get the hell out of here."

We got up and booked it, gossiping as we went. But I had this creepy feeling someone was following us, so I looked back—and sure enough, it was Ramaza, Gio's best friend, trailing us.

"Who sent you?" Anna snapped at him.

He looked pissed. "Why do you think someone sent me? I'm just going home."

"Liar," Anna shot back and kept chatting.

But I wasn't really listening; I was lost in my own head. Then Anna let out this loud scream that snapped me out of it.

I shook off the thoughts and turned to her. "What the actual hell was that?"
